So we just bought everything we need to start creating custom calendars, we already have a Canon Pixma TS8151, problem is its totally hammering the ink just printing out one calendar to the point its just not worth doing, obviously you have the 12 sides with the photo/image on and the other side with the month/days on.

Anybody else here do a lot of photo printing? How do you make it cost effective? We are not sure if you should just give in or look into buying a printer that we can get cheaper compatible inks for.

Cheers.

Depending on your quantities have you considered outsourcing the work?

Pixma is a consumer product, almost give the printer away so they can sting you for ink .....

Photos take a lot of ink, you really need a really big production machine to bring cost per page right down .....

Compatable inks fine for 'office' colour, but not generally as good for photo ....
A really good bulk ink supplier can probably give profiles etc, but put bulk ink on a higher end printer ...

I print loads of calendars and greetings cards at my printing business in Worcester and would consider giving discounts to any of the forum members if it helps. Go to www.worcesterprinters.co.uk to see my standard prices for digital printing

Thanks for the input guys, think we will just leave it as its not going to be very cost effective.

To be honest you'd be better off outsourcing at a fiver each if you order only 10 ; the outlay cost for trimmers, print, binding and finishing equipment isn't worth it. Obviously you could get the cost down to around £1.50 each if you order 100 but still cheaper than diy.
