Re: Dpd
Has anyone sent mugs via dpd? I noticed they do a pick up service at a reasonable price which would be handy at the moment but on the prohibited items it lists crockery etc

Re: Dpd
I don't send by DPD, but all my cartons of mugs from Listawood are delivered by DPD so it seems crockery must be ok to ship with them.

Re: Dpd
Some of the suppliers use DPD to send mugs. Occasionally you would get breakages and damaged boxes, but 'Miroslav' would kick up a fuss if you wanted to check the box first because he has 194 jobs to get through and is paid per delivery.
Re: Dpd
Funnily enough I had mugs delivered yesterday by DPD.
I saw the van pull up but went to the door after the driver had not appeared within a few minutes. The noise coming from the back of his van as he threw the boxes around was alarming and I eventually went to fetch the stuff myself. The box looked fine but the some of the mugs inside were smashed to smithereens.
This particular driver always refuses to let me sign for the delivery which worries me but I guess that reporting him for that would possibly make him throw the boxes harder next time!

Re: Dpd
I get a couple of different DPD drivers and they're both great. No damaged items and I'm asked to sign every time. It's the luck of the draw though.

Re: Dpd
I used to like DPD at the start and my regular delivery guy was great and very helpful. But now I know how DPD are running the business by placing staff on really poor contracts. It's hitting Royal Mail/ Parcelforce so much that Royal Mail want to sack their workforce and put their staff on those same crappy contracts just to compete.
Decades of hard fought union action increased the standard of living and working conditions, has now been undone by 'EU' DPD workers. If there was ever an argument for Brexit, this is a classic example of how two competing businesses are having to go head to head. Somebody tell Jeremy Corbyn, sometimes he doesn't know who is voters are!

Re: Dpd
We ditched DPD after only 6 weeks as we got too many breakages. We used UPS and got breakages. We went back to Parcel Force and got none. Worth the extra cost if sending mugs in our opinion.
Re: Dpd
we get a couple of DPD deliveries a day and always very good.

Re: Dpd
Not one courier will actually guarantee crockery, although it says prohibited what it means is that if the items break they are not liable.
I use DPD all the time and there are so many variants that you can send 100 boxes and get zero breakages, the next day you can send another 100 boxes and not one mug survive.
The best thing to do is either double box, or what I tend to do is line the inside of the box with some nice thick double wall card (bascially I cut another mug box up). Make sure you do all the sides and the top and the bottom and that tends to survive most things. If you are feeling really fancy then place card inbetween each layer and put corner protectors on the outside.
Not 100% convinced on your argument Gooner, but I get where you are coming from

Re: Dpd
I used to be in the CWU and have spoken to postmen about the recent strike arguments and that's what Royal Mail management were proposing. My old DPD driver would fill me in with their working conditions. British Unions versus non Union EU migrant contracts...chalk and cheese.
