Re: Strange pink glow

Post by Mikejohno1 »

Hi guys,

Printed some gym 100% polyester gym vests for a mate of mine with his business logo on them, but there was a strange pink glow on the background of all finished presses. Is this due to not enough pressure? I use a poly cushion underneath it. The pictures I have don't seem to show it as much but it's more visible in person. Also, where the heat tape has been holding the paper, it seems to have left a press mark. I'm guessing this would have been eradicated if i had used the adhesive spray. Which sprays do people use?

Many thanks
Mike

I would say the glow is gas escaping during the sublimation heat press process. Increase the pressure and use a Teflon sheet to cover the product and paper transfer to try to prevent gas escaping.

Indents from the paper and heat tape are usually resolved from either shaking the garment to loosen the fibres or putting them through a wash cycle.

I personally don't get indents from heat tape, but do get them from the paper transfer, I have found that taring the paper around the design rather than cutting with scissors helps improve this. Taring leaves a less abrupt line compared to cutting so the outline is barely visible following heat press.

Thanks for the advice Alex! I usually tear my paper anyway but the heat tape left the indentation, hopefully this will soon go.
I’ve used a Teflon pillow which I think was the biggest problem as like you say, the pressure wasn’t enough and has led to gas escape.
I think next time I need to get myself some of that adhesive spray and use without the Teflon pillows, it’s never had this effect before so I don’t know why it’s only just started , but I would be able to gauge pressure without it I guess.

I have never used tape for garments just torn the paper Teflon sheet on top and pressed.

I had problems not too long back with shadowing on garments, my press would somewhat twist a tiny bit as I opened it, causing a shadow, hence the tape. That’s why I’m looking at the spray now
