Brother printer
Re: Brother printer
Hi,
im knew to printing and after some research decided to go for sub dye printing.
I purchased a brother wf5890 a3 inkjet printer and a ciss system.
After several failed attempts at different temps and transfer paper i cobtacted the company who sold me the coss and ink and they advised the ink is normal dye and not suitable for sublimation , thats why the ink was not transfering over.
they also advised my printer is not suitable for sub dye, i have checked forums etc and they advised a inkjet printer would be suitable.
so basically if anybody is able to help...
is the brother mf5890 suitable for sub dye printing?
woulf i be able to keep the ciss and replace the ink inside with sub due ink?

Re: Brother printer
In short the Brother printer you have can be used for dye sublimation printing (it uses a micropezio printing head so is suitable) however, having sold inkjet printers for sublimation for the past decade I have never bothered using / supplying a Brother printer for dye sublimation printing.
You could drain out your current ink from the CISS and then refill with dye sublimation ink and it would then work for your needs, but the issue would be-
1) Obtaining a sublimation ink that is compatible with the printer; we sell sublimation inks that are specifically designed for Epson or RICOH printing heads. Arguably you could use an Epson compatible sublimation ink in your Brother, but I am unsure how it would perform and if it would have any adverse effect on the printing head.
2) You would most certainly need an ICC to match the inks (most likely they wouldn't be Brother specific as outlined above) to the printer so what you printed and transferred looked a close match to the image you had onscreen.
You have a printer that can be used for sublimation, its just not a common or preferred choice in the industry.
Most people use an EPSON or RICOH desktop inkjet printer and convert them to use sublimation inks, they are widely used and have been tested. Inks are readily available and are reliable and safe to use in the printers.
As a company we sell a wide range of sublimation converted printers that are ready to be used for sublimation printing so if you do decide to change printer please feel free to visit our website in my signature below.

I was speaking to a potential customer yesterday who has been using a Brother printer, he had been using the Inktec Sublinova inks (meant for Epson printers) and appeared to be getting good results from what he was saying.
I sell the Inktec Sublinova inks at £35.00 for a set of 100ml of each, so more expensive than the eBay inks but they are reknowned as being the best on the market and lots of forum users on here use them.

Re: Brother printer
Hi,
I keep stock of the 6 colours (C, M, Y, K, LC, LM) but the light blacks are not something I have in stock.
They're easily ordered and come within 24 hours, so no problem.
Drop me a DM.
Kind regards,
Christian

Re: Brother printer
If you search the forum there are previous posts from users successfully using brother printers for sublimation, with InkTec inks.
Whether buying direct from a dealer, or through a marketplace like Ebay, I'd recommend buying a known named brand like InkTec - they are not expensive at £35 for 4x 100ml each of CMYK from most suppliers, with the other colours readily available too - the light light black is a bit more scarce to come by quickly though.
