Re: Total Newbie Here - Epson WF2510

I got the PixMax 5 in 1 bundle 2 weeks ago. It came with an Epson WF2510 printer. I am delighted with the heat press however I have had problems getting the Epson to print of the sublimation inks. I was advised to do repeated head cleans and nozzle checks. i did this numerous times with the first printer I had but nothing came through. They sent me out 4 different cartridges but nothing worked. Eventually the printer stopped recognising the inks and Monster Doodle took the printer back and sent me a new one. This one is fine it brings up the odd ink not recognised. What I was wanting to know was roughly how many head cleans and nozzle checks I should need for the ink to come through. I have been doing it off and on all yesterday and still no ink coming through. Also when the ink isn't recognised I am taking the relevant ink cartridge out and replacing it. Is this causing problems with interrupting the ink flow?

Thank you all so very much in advance. I am getting really frustrated as it has been almost two weeks and I still can't print sublimationxx

Have you made sure you've taken off all the packaging from the printer and also removed the plastic strip on the top of the cartridges.

There's normally a strip of plastic you need to pull off to open up the air hole so the ink can be drawn through. If the strip is still in place the vacuum that gets build up will stop the ink.

You should never do more than 3 head cleans in a row. If you still have clogged heads or missing segments after this you should try doing at least `0 pages of full colour print to clean the heads.

But if you're not getting any ink through I would suggest either you've not removed all the packaging in the printer head or more likely you need to remove the srtip on top of the cartridge.

Thanks Customprintwales. There is white bungs you take out to create the vacuum so I've done that. I will run a full colour print and see what happens. I've ordered a CISS system for the epson WF2150. Do you think this would work better than the cartridges?

I have a wf2510 and found the carts do not reset so I bought a chip resetter and it know recognises them although I sometimes get a warning that it is not genuine ink so I just click carry on.

The refillable cartridges we provide come with two rubber seals in the top (a colour one to denote which colour cartridge it is and a clear one which is an air breathing seal)

On our refillable cartridges the clear seals need to be removed from the top and left out at all times when the printer is in use (otherwise it creates a vacuum and ink stops printing) in fact we have been removing these ourselves prior to dispatch to ensure they can't be left in by mistake.

Do not remove anything from the underside of the cartridge (where the printer nozzle pierces the cartridge) as this will render the cartridge unusable.

Typically we supply refillable cartridges with a new printer and instruct the user to install the refillable cartridges from brand new / first install. The printer will run an ink charge process this is basically a big head clean and draws the ink into the printing head.

If you are installing cartridges after a printer has initialised you will need to usually run 2 print head cleans and allow 15 minutes between each clean.

This allows the ink to settle on the printing head and yields better results than continual print head cleaning; this wastes ink and can damage the printing head by overheating it.

Ive not got a CISS system and filled up and primed the inks. The cartridges are all recognised but still I'm not getting any ink coming through at all. I have checked for solutions but all are for blocked printer heads. Mine are crystal clear just not getting the ink to push through to print off. Am I doing something wrong. There is no air in the print lines and the cartridges are full?

I would think it has to be some kind of a vacuum that has been created - this is the only thing which would prevent the ink from flowing - sorry can be of more help. Ink express will help you tomorrow when they open Im sure.

Thanks for that Loobyloo. I think it may be as zero ink is getting through but I have no idea how to correct it.

Just looked at my instructions for setting up my system which is the Epson 1500w. On my system the ink tanks have to be slightly elevated when being stuck to the side of the printer. This is because of the high casting design of this printer. The bottom of the tanks should be 25mm higher that the base of the printer / desk (I suppose this is all about siphon theory). Maybe this is the case with your printer.

After all my faffing about yesterday I turned the printer off and left it overnight. Plugged it in with no hope of an image - I nearly fainted it's actually printing off. Two weeks of trying to get a print and finally I have. Thank you all so much for all your help and advicexxx.
