Re: Placemats - New Supplier required
I've avoided doing these for a long time now due to the warping. Can anyone recommend a supplier that has something other than Unisub which doesn't warp please?
I'll need a coaster that will compliment each mat as well.

We have found no hardbacked place mat that will not warp. That referral of those cork backed coasters have cork backed place mats and they are perfect. You will always need to put them under weight but they have never warped. Ps: NUDGE NUDGE on eBay metal cutter seller

We tried everything to stop them warping, weights, soaking, pre-heating, apres heating! Nothing stopped them warping! I'll speak to a couple of suppliers who 'claim' they don't warp and see what the latest suggestions are!

Please note - The product can bow under heat and pressure from Sublimation. To resolve the bowing it is recommended to press the product face down for half of the original pressing time ensuring a silicone application sheet is placed both above and below the product.
Taken from Xpres website. I remember trying this to no avail. Anyone getting this to work?

Nope, that never works. Just the nature of the beast of being compressed wood fibre and physics.

Great
Would really like to get this order out, only 20 placemats but someone I worked with many years ago and I know we can do much more work.

We use two 20kg dumbells to place on top of place mats once out (cardboard below weight) or we use a heavy box or two (at least 20kg). They do need at least 12 hours of pressing we find and the cork ones always work much better.

Reminds of the days trying to flatten fibre based photographic paper. Two massive MDF boards underneath the mattress, placed the paper in between and slept on them overnight.UK Printed Mugs;129397 wrote:Nope, that never works. Just the nature of the beast of being compressed wood fibre and physics.
Back then , photographers used to recommend some kind of 'T shirt heat press' to slowly dry your prints. That idea was too costly!

Try longforte or the transfer pressJustin;129377 wrote:I've avoided doing these for a long time now due to the warping. Can anyone recommend a supplier that has something other than Unisub which doesn't warp please?
