I have a job on for 6 shirts, I have a purple rectangle background which has white text inside, is it better to cut the lettering out of the purple background and layer it with white vinyl or can I just print the white vinyl on top of the purple?

I have done this before (layering) but there is always a problem in lining up the layers as there always seems to be a very slight gap between both layers of vinyls where t shirt colour can be seen so it isnt fitting as snuggly as it should?

Thanks

I had this same discussion in another thread lol.

I was advised to cut the lettering out and also have a 2mm overlap which will prevent gaps and make lining up less stressful.

wont this cause problems when overlapping, the vinyls are white and fushia, will the edges not crease or be rough~?

No, the vinyl sit well on top of each other. When pressing you need to make sure that you don't overheat the vinyl i.e bottom layer for maybe 5secs then peel and place the next layer and press for 15secs. The times depend on the vinyl but I use Xpres which is 15secs.
You could experiment with out cutting the purple layer for the text and just layering the white lettering vinyl on top and see how that goes. I did this with a t-shirt.

ok ive done a tester and it seems ok, obviously you can feel the raised layer but very slightly but looks ok though so I think I will go with that method of just one on top og the other with no offset.

Cheers coops much appreciated
