Hi all, I've just bought a new Adkins twin mug press from Xpress and have been testing it out today.
I'm getting brown (overheated looking) vertical lines on the transfer paper after pressing which correspond to stripey blurred patches around the middle of
the mugs which is worse on the left hand element when compared to the right.
Ricoh, Sawgrass inks, Trupix paper.
Settings:
180c for 180sec - very burnt paper around middle of mug
175c for 170sec - better but still visible lines and blurring
170c for 165sec - still visible lines and blurring and not enough ink transferred on right hand element.
Not sure where to go from here (pub?). Have tried reducing pressure, it's very light now and this doesn't seem to make a difference.
Got a pallet of mugs arriving tomorrow so slightly concerned!!
TIA
Cath

It in only needs to gently press the paper against the mug. This could be the cause of the lines... worth a try.
170 degrees, 240 secs worth a try. Gradually drop time back and see what how low you can go. It may be that you can't drop the time back much more than that.
My adkins , GK and BMS presses all have different settings.

I agree with above if that helps (probably not). Don't go above 170c if you're using SG inks so it is defo a pressure issue no doubt as 165s should do it fine in adkins.

Re: New Adkins Twin Mug Press Problems - Help Please!!
Thanks for your replies and advice everyone. Fixed the problem today after burning though about 40 mugs - it was time!
I'm preheating the bases and then took the cooking time right down to 140 secs (175c) and I'm now getting perfect mugs
Incidentally these are the same settings I use on my BMS press and probably should have been the first thing I tried but i thought the mugs would need longer in the adkins to account for the countdown starting as soon as you put in the mug, rather than once it is back up to temp as per the BMS press.

Just as an update in case it helps anyone else - i found that using the settings above didn't fix the problem for all my mug designs and so after playing about some more I'm now using:
Sawgrass ink
Trupix paper
200c for 130sec with med/light pressure
I put the mugs in from cold rather than preheating the bases

Interesting set of figures there. Love this business.....nothing is straight forward!
