Re: Straight sided mugs

Post by Mugshots »

I have just had one of our customers contact me saying there is a problem with their most recent order of 30 mugs. We have done a two sided full wrap design with a thin green line running around the bottom. At the time of pressing we didnt see a problem. They have now noticed that the green line runs down ever so slightly towards the middle of the mug from either end. I have been thinking about why this has happened and the only reason would be the sides of the mugs are slightly out.

I have promised them 30 straight ones by the weekend. Anyone point me in the right direction of some straight sided mugs please?Im not naming and shaming. Its one of the big suppliers but seeing how they handle my complaint 1st

Are you able to post a photo to show exactly what you mean?

Just wondering if what you are trying to achieve is within the tolerance levels of a dye sub mug or not.

Its literally just a thin green line running round the bottom of the mug side. Problem is it dips down on the side opposite the hangle by approx 1mm which wheb packing wasnt obvious.

[LEFT][INDENT][INDENT][INDENT][INDENT][INDENT][INDENT]I use Corel Draw and have designed a template for mugs so I can print 3 designs onto an A4 paper. As my mugs are 92mm high I print the first so the middle of the design in centered within the first 92mm block. Then the next above that ,and so on to the third.
My guillotine is set to cut every 92mm so I have a dead straight and square cut every 92mm.
Wrapping this around the mug gives me a square print.
Providing the print is square to the bottom of the cut I will get a square print on the mug.
That's how I do it and never had a problem, even with odd shaped mugs.

Mugs are not straight. Some are better than others, some are so bad you have to discard them. Whose mugs are you using?

Sorry mug shots, been away for the day and just received the emails from dawn. We have nothing to hide regarding our mugs, would be interesting if you posted the picture on here that I have just received to see what any body else's thoughts are.

Try sitting a set square next to the mug and see if there is evidence of bowing in the mug where this anomalous is. I don't think mugs are perfect items though the degree of imperfection can vary!

This can be a problem with customers designs. That's why I stick to my own designs which purposely avoid these types of problems. However, some mugs are so badly deformed that you stand no chance of an accurate print. The ones I hate the most are the hourglass shaped ones that leave the prints faded in the middle.

Currently paying a bit more for Listawoods 10oz top grade mugs and haven't had one reject. They're straight as a die, no chips or blemishes, and print great.

Sorry for the picture quality. The problem can be seen. I've had to use 1 piece of paper wrapped round where for a double sided design I would usually use 2.
