Where to place an image on a garment ... ?
Re: Where to place an image on a garment ... ?
So,
I thought I'd post this question as there's a wealth of experience here. I was going to post it over on t-shirt forums but
a. everyone here is a lot friendlier.
and
b. I reckon people would laugh at me (and I have only just got over the snake belt incident!).
So, after doing a couple of t-shirts this week I was extrememly proud of how they went, I tried multi layering vinyl and sublimation and all went well. The missis (bless her cotton socks) then said today .............. "is the image a little high".
"Of course not" I answered, then I thought - I'm doing this as pure guess work and making sure that the top of the image (size specific) is about 4inches from the collar.
Am I right, what does everyone else do?

I line the top of the image up where the sleeve meets the body of the tshirt
That might be 4 inches down, never measured it

Swing away press are a real joy and allow you to move the heat well away from your operating area, but you do need an arc of around 140 degrees to get the heat plate to clear the lower platen.Kaz wrote:Really need to find the space for a swing away
In terms of physical space you either need a deep bench at least 36" for a 38x38cm machine, or a dedicated stand with lots of room around it. I use two swing away presses and had to be very creative as to how I utilised the available space.
On the subject of image placement, it also depends on the length of the garment plus the image itself on course. Being very careful with my choice of words here, with women's tees I try to place so that any inbuilt 'curvature' doesn't distort my images too much.
