Bemused by strange hue on a Mug
Re: Bemused by strange hue on a Mug
Hi guys,
We had a complaint last night of a mug that arrived in Australia. It is a Listawood AAA, the design was part graphic with pink text all on a white background. We're 99% sure it left us with no issues (there's always a chance it was missed, but this is so obvious we can't believe we did), basically, the image looks as if the pink from the text and graphic has contaminated pretty much the whole of the pressed part of the white background giving it a pink hue. Also the edges of much of the text are not sharp either.
We've never experienced anything like this before or since, never rejected a mug for anything like this, (it was sent around 2 weeks ago).
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this at the pressing stage? or could it be possible that something contaminated the coating during air transit to Australia causing a reaction with the ink?
Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Mug press? Oven? ....... Oven suggest gas contamination, can happen occasionally with a press but is very rare as gas vents to....well... the room!

Haven't a clue but just a really wild guess here ...
I wonder if it would be possible for the extreme reduction in air pressure in the hold of the plane to cause the polymer pores to 'open up?'

Ahh yes, forgot to say, we use a couple of mug presses, one's a cheeper chinese one which was probably the one used. It has been a bit tempremental of late, sending black text in the centre of mugs brown. I'm actually in the process of ordering an Adkins to replace it as we speak.
Re: Bemused by strange hue on a Mug
I had wondered that myself (along with all kinds of other bizarre theories! We do send a lot to the States though and never had it reported before, so I'm really hoping it's a pressing error and we missed it and sent it out.webtrekker;118032 wrote:Haven't a clue but just a really wild guess here ...

Here's a pic she sent of it, as you see it's not a subtle fault, which is why I'm blown away if it was missed at both the pressing and packing stages.

Not sure about the pink hue - but isn't the "th" on the "70" (right hand side) in the wrong place?

That was the first thing that caught my eye too John! Probably one of the reasons I never show my own work in the forum!

Ha yes it is. Oddly never mentioned by a customer though........ actually, not quite true, the lady with the pink hue brought it up although she did say that wasn't the issue lol!
It's been changed now. We do several of these designs and typically this is the only one it's like this. Wife says put it down to "artistic licence for balance" ..... whatever that means

I reckon you've kept it in the press too long. I have a design with thick black text and a block of yellow; the yellow often bleeds up to the top as the press is timed for the heavy black.
