Ink/paper/printer issue
Re: Ink/paper/printer issue
Hello!
About two months ago I bought my first sublimation printer (Epson WF-3010) with CISS and ink from "I do not know if I can write the name of the company but probably you will know who I'm talking about".
Unfortunately, there are a few things that I don't like. And when I asked the company for help, they are reluctant to reply. And before when I had few questions about printer/delivery, they responded within 10 minutes. Few times. Annoying company.
So.
Mostly, I don't like white spots on the print, they're also visible after heat transfering - photos attached.
I have two types of sublimation paper. Chinese one which was included with printer bundle and Jet Stream Digital F-35. Yesterday I searched for a solution. And I did the "Print Head Alignment" but it is just the same. Do you know why this might be happening?
The second thing, black ink after printing (without heat transfering) gets brown. Eg. I will print text and after a few hours is all brown. Is this normal, or perhaps ink or paper is old / poor quality?
I will be grateful for your help!
P.S. As for the ICC profile, I already received one but it was wrong - orange instead of red, turquoise instead of baby blue ... Now I'm waiting for a second profile.

Re: Ink/paper/printer issue
Thank you for your interest in my thread:)
I print on the bright white side.
I attached few pictures. Yesterday's printouts showing that ink on paper is getting brown. And also the ink tank.
I would be grateful if someone could confirm that brown-black ink is good or bad. I might add (because surely someone will ask about it) that the ink comes from the City Ink Express.
Thank you!
Mark

Re: Ink/paper/printer issue
Are you sure you've set up your iCC profile correctly? I use CityInkExpress inks on their paper in a Ricoh SG3110DN printer and my blacks are black and my colours are as they should be. The only time I've had a brownish black was due to incorrect settings when pressing, the prints on the paper were fine.

Hi webtrekker:)
Yes, I'm 100% sure that I have set up ICC Profile correctly. The instruction is simple and I have read it several times to be 100% sure. Additionally, every time I print something, I double check printer/software options - They changed without reason two or three times so now I just want to be sure that everything is correct.
Regarding to the black ink. It took me exactly 34 mugs to determine the correct temperature and time for the perfect black (and 28 mugs to find out and be 100% sure that the ICC Profile is incorrect, funny fact is that the prints look better without profile) when pressing. Mainly, I mean that black is brown in the bottle (Please check attached picture of ink tank in my previous post).
I'm afraid that the black ink can be eg. out of date and after a few months it will fade or something.
As for the white spots - tomorrow morning I'll clean the print head, I hope that this can help me somehow.
//Edit. Just one more thing. Because of brown black ink. I can't get grey colors..

City ink is chinese its not consistent there is really no batch to batch control. Plenty of blacks look brown until they are pressed infact some very high end ink looks this way. If you want consistancy buy a well know branded ink or an ink manufacturered in europe / Uk. if you want cheap buy chinese and live with the results. the cost difference inst that much if you pick a better ink to be fair also youll get a shed loads of better support from a UK supplier of UK ink than a chinese importer who has NO CONTROL.

Re: Ink/paper/printer issue
I'd be happy to try out your inks Mags, but to be honest I'm having no troubles with the CityInkExpress inks at the moment.
I've just printed this (sorry for the crap photo) and believe me, the black is BLACK, and is after pressing too ...
This is Fotorite ink on 'Anne' type paper.

Re: Ink/paper/printer issue
Please post a CMYK image of your inks Mags and we'll compare photos. If yours are noticeably better than mine then I'll order from you.
Re: Ink/paper/printer issue
I have used City Ink Expresses sub ink. The ink is OK, but the ICC profile they provided is useless. All the colours are too dull. I think they do their own custom profiles in house, so maybe they aren't too familiar with profiling for sublimation.
I get better results on the Epson 1500w using the 1500w 'standard' profile.
The picture below shows two t-shirts I printed earlier this week. The one on the right is using City Inks profile, the blues are purple, the reds are orange the yellow is too dull and the grey is sepia. The one on the left using 1500 standard has bright blues, reds and yellow, and the grey is about right. The colours from the Epson profile are pretty much spot on.
