Re: Ricoh SG3110dn - printing head obstructed

Hi everyone,

I haven't used my printer for a couple of month and made printing test to see that the magenta printing head is clogged.
I've launched the head cleaning a couple of times but I'm stil far from a good use.

Is it possible to clean manually like normal printer ?

I can't give a brand, since I bought it from Chinese vendor. But it worked well.

That will be your problem. This machine needs the gel ink and to be left on so it does the self cleaning.

Yep, I'll try to bring it to a repairer and ask for the price. I may buy a new printer depending on that.

EDIT: at least 60€ for cleaning the printheads, I'll try to clean it myself or better buy a printer if not successful.

I would go down the supported route next time. If you pay £10 for membership here you can get some good discounts from some of the suppliers.

I'd replace the printer for sure. I have 'cheaper' inks running in the Ricoh machines but yet to find anything decent enough with good support and backup. You certainly get what you pay for. My opinion, downtime is making no money time!

Make sure the ink is a GEL Type ink I use that and I print very rarely and NEVER have to do a head clean :). The Gel inks are roughly 2.5 x the viscosity of epson inks .

This person appears to be in France so discounts probably don't help but if it was turned off when not in use then that might cause it to become clogged either partially or fully. I've read if you do a few cleans and it doesn't clear then try those ink costly flushes and it still doesn't clear then leave it overnight switched off which can sometimes fix it due to the volume of ink having been passing through (or sitting behind the clog) which may dissolve the blockage.

However, do anyone have knowledge or experience of clearing head clogs other than by trying software based cleans and flushes? I understand epsons are machines that can regularly experience blockages but can be cleaned so wondered if the process would be the same for the Ricoh. That might help this guy.

Seen youtube vid on how to flush a system, don't know if it would clear a blocked head channel but there's nothing to loose (aprt from some ink and a cost of refil carts off ebay) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrsQ9DWEwmg
