Re: T-shirt Printing - OKI pro920WT / Roland BN-20 / Epson F2000 DTG

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at doing some t-shirt/jumper printing - looking to get up to 20 a day asap via facebook, ebay etc - If you could ignore the positive, yet naive statement that there is still money to be made in this area and stay with me)

I intend to print to order rather than buy 100 of the same designed t-shirt from china and be left with 99 because they are poor sellers.

Im looking at the gym market with colourful gym referenced images. The following t-shirts are what i would be aiming for. I'm trying to get away from the usual logo 'monster nutrition' 'killer gorilla' and all those other lame names and focus on cartoony mash ups of cartoon characters.

I want to be the uk version of this :

and get away from

Typical T-shirts.

Would the t-shirts be screen printed or vinyl pressed?

Can you let me know your thoughts on the following printers for quality prints and whether if they are overkill for just t-shirt/jumper printing at the quantity listed above?. The thing is I do want to make them of higher quality - but should i be putting the money into better quality blank shirts rather than the printer?

OKI pro920WT Printer with White Toner
Roland BN-20
Epson F2000 DTG

I already use a Rioch 3100 and a Hotronix heat auto press for printing phone cases so wouldn't need to purchase another press.

On another note - how are these leggings and the rucksack printed ? Would these only be made in a factory?

Thanks everyone :) !

Thanks @Paul and @Arfermo ... Would you think those T-shirts are screen printed in the examples?

I'm not vinyl will look a bit tacky with it looking quite shiny etc

I really wanted to print to order :( ... I was thinking of getting some Plastisol transfers as a test my toe in the water option?

The images will either be DTG or screen printed in large numbers
DTG doesn't like polyester/performance apparel
As mentioned, oki white printer is not super durable..... - but is good for print on demand
BUT Oki 920Wt is an old printer that has been rubbished as it is not robust enough to fuse a full A3 area of print ....... the 711w at A4 area does work, but won't give you the print area

No solution that I know of, - if you find one, - please advise as I want one too!

There are vinyls which are thin and flexible for use in the bn-20 but that is a proper investment. I'd try the plastisol transfer route, not cheap either but not in the thousands and means you choose the colour and size garment to apply it to based on the orders coming in. If you want batches done in sizes and colours then get a Screen printer to run 50 or 100 or more off for you though that's a bit more of a leap of faith until you know your market and supplier well. Most transfer places will send you samples of what they produce to try, you would do well to use a quality swing press if you've room. Run some trials and washability testa then go to market when your happy.
