Re: Black Pressing Purple

Post by PeteO »

Hoping you all can offer some help with this one.

Every colour i print and press seem to be fine, except for Black, it always presses as Purple. 180 for 180

I have attempted pressing black strips using Photoshop, and Microsoft Paint (I know that desperate), using the Sawgrass Powerdriver, and direct to the printer, everytime purple.

I read through many posts on here and else where and people advised increasing the temperature, i did this as well to no avail. 195 for 180

I must admit i dont fully understand ICC profiles, would one colour be so wrong while all overs are correct? I have toyed with requesting a custom profile from Paul, but if this is another issue the profile wont solve it.

The pic attach is some spot colours i ran, the lovely purple in the top row is meant to be black, 0,0,0 RGB

I have also attempted Printer manages colour, and Photoshop manages colour, both of which i have read to try. Photoshop manages colour resulted in all White being printed as Off Yellow, so stopped trying that.

Any help greatly appreciated

Pete

I'm assuming as you're using the Powerdriver that you have Sawgrass inks? If not then this will be useless as all PD does is control profiles for you that have been specifically created for SG inks.

Use Photoshop manages colours, and then print direct to the print driver (not power driver) and then use the printer/ink ICC profile here, in the print driver settings make sure that any colour adjustment/enhancements are off.

Non Sawgrass Inks, but issue occurs regardless of PD used or not, all other colours look almost identical with or without PD

If you aren't using sawgrass inks then powerdriver won't give you the right colours, simple as that.

Best bet is quite a few hours searching the forum, build your background knowledge. Then all will gradually become clear.

As mentioned, Black still looks purple with or without Power Driver.

Also as previously mentioned i have read multiple posts, the reason i haven't 'built my background knowledge' is if you spend too long reading on an issue you end up finding conflicting information.

Your question shows you don't have a grip of the basics. What shade of cyan is your cyan? What shade of Magenta is your magenta? etc. Your printer and your computer have no idea, hence no way of calculating the colour.
You are using powerdriver, but not sawgrass inks etc.

I may come across as harsh, but it is good advice, read, read some more, search this forum, search the internet. Once you have grasped the basics, people will chip in willingly on the more complex issues.

Had you researched the forum to start you would probably have bought a printer from a supplier on the forum with sawgrass ink, powerdriver, and support from the supplier. You would be printing correct colours.

So whilst you may not like the good advice I gave.....it still stands, harsh but true.

and there you will need to select your icc for your printer.
black colour is not created out of black ink. its created out of all colours. without icc your printer dont know what colours to mix to get proper shades.
