Print quality and colours are poor.

Hello, I could do with some assistance.

I purchased this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252046004817 and it came with the inks, i've read i should have got Sawgrass inks but that's something i've realised early on.

My colors are awful really, i've followed a conde video tutorial on color management for mac but it only seems marginally better, the blacks not very dark at all.

I have searched the forums and read i should be looking for Paul to create me a ICC Profile, if that's what i need to do then, where are you paul?

At that price I'd have recommended buying the 3110 from a forum recognised supplier with SG inks, simply as this would be your quickest route to getting started. You don't 'need' SG inks but you do need to know the manufacturer of those sublimation inks so you can get consistency when buying. I'm yet to see non SG inks work through a Ricoh printer due to the different consistency required but I am told they exist. Until I've seen and tested them i wouldn't advise putting the inks through the printer.

BTW.....Did you read this sellers feedback over the last 12 months? Appears to be quite a few with leaking CIS etc. bit of a concern. Ask them what they recommend you do with their printer and inkset, it needs to be fit for purpose and able to produce the required results which it can't possibly do without a profile. They may/should have an off the shelf profile that would at least get you started. When you buy through an SG agent you get the powerdriver for Windows which controls profiles and you get the actual profiles ready made for Mac.

There seem to be a lot of these 2110 models being sold as sublimation printers now. Is this due to the Sawgrass "patent" issues.

Question has been repeatedly asked to SG but falls on deaf ears, leads me to believe patent did indeed end so...yes!

Also did these 2110 printers use a different head or ink so that is why you can use refillable ink

They'll be being sold as sub printers, as they are cheaper models, so easier to buy in (at retail) bundle with ink etc and sell as a bundle on Ebay etc.
The print tech inside will be the same as the other Ricohs from the range. The only way any ink will work (flow) properly is if it is designed for this type of printer, which are available outside of the Sawgrass cartel, but they just arent as commonly available compared to inks designed for Epsons.

Thanks for the reply, i have yet to get hold of the seller, i've tried the number and did some research, there website isn't 30% complete which isn't a great sign, hopefully i will be able to get a ICC Profile from him else i'll have to contact Paul.

Now i've put those inks that was supplied with the printer is it possible for me to flush them out and use the SG inks?

Your seller should provide you with icc. dont listen if they say that you dont need one. this is old chestnut from all dogy sellers! Some of them says that setting to rgb ( !!!) is good enough to print. you quickly find out this is not true as soon as you will receive tricky image to print.
I would suggest to print some test mages and press them. never judge whats on paper.
search this forum for "dsf mug" its good starting point to see what is wrong. colours, gradients, skin tones etc...

I've searched for DSF Mugs but it's not showing anything for me, the keywords are too common or something.
