Clutching at straws possibly but this is annoying me so I'm going to ask.....
I've been using one of these sticky notes software to put post it style reminders on my desktop. Long story short, had an issue with my PC and had to back date before these notes were created. I'm assuming the notes must have been saved/backed up somewhere to enable them to stay on the desktop area during a reboot etc. As I have a full backup of the PC from before the problem occurred I'm wondering where this backup might be?
I've checked the relevant software folder to no avail, is there any chance this could have been a Windows file?
Appreciate any advice. It's not really critical but would be useful to get the notes back....and has become a bit of a challenge!
Recovering from PC Desktop
Re: Recovering from PC Desktop
Windows stores your sticky notes in a special appdata folder, which is probably C:\Users\logon\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes--with logon being the name with which you log onto your PC. You’ll find only one file in that folder, StickyNotes.snt, which contains all your notes. If you keep important information in these notes, I suggest you make this folder part of your regular backup routine.
There’s an easy way to get to this folder. In Windows 7, click Start, or in Windows 8’s Search charm, type %appdata%\microsoft\sticky notes. Select the Sticky Notes folder.
Of course, if your computer died, and you’ve removed the hard drive and connected it to another PC, that trick won’t do any good. You’ll have to navigate Windows Explorer to the newly-attached drive’s Users\logon\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Sticky Notes folder.

Like I say, not that important just annoying. It isn't the Microsoft sticky notes though, made by Simnet.
Re: Recovering from PC Desktop
If it is a Windows computer, and assuming MS have not changed how they do stuff, all stuff saved on your Windows desktop, is saved in a folder called 'Desktop'. And unless things have changed, no, it is not backed up anywhere unless you do a manual copy regularly.
If you reinstall Windows, you will lose whatever was 'on your Desktop' as part of the procedure. On reason why I used to discourage my clients from saving files and folders and stuff to the Desktop - apart from the untidy look.
Forgive me if I misread the original post, I am exhausted. But it looked to me like that problem again.
EDIT:
I should add that Desktop Folder is pretty prominent to find in your file manager. Just add that to your backup routine along with My Documents and My Pictures and other stuff in future.

Re: Recovering from PC Desktop
Yes the sticky notes are 'displayed' on the desktop but I wouldn't expect a data file to be saved there. Fully appreciate not saving to desktop and I have multiple backups on/off line as well as a full clone so no issues there. All I'm looking for is the data file specifically related to the Simnet software.
Re: Recovering from PC Desktop
I haven't used Windows since I decided to go back to real computers after 20 years of having to work on Microsoft stuff. Getting back to Unix based computing was a breath of fresh air again.
Anyway, I can't help much because I'm out of touch with Windows, but I would expect the data file to be somewhere like:
C:\Program Files\Simnet\Simple Sticky Notes\
or
Based on a quick google, however, I imagine that's the first place you looked.
