Re: waste ink tank

Post by Quinsfan »

I know this has been discussed before and there are answers on here where to buy them on line but it is 6.30 on a Friday night and I have just had this come up. Does any one know if there is a High Street store that may hold these tanks in stock. When you do a google all I can find is Online stockists and obviously any order will not get here till Monday or even Tuesday if they dont work over the weekend and I have a 'orrible feeling that the Conde reset i have found online is not going to last.
Many thanks
Iain

Hi Iain

The only instant solution I found was to buy a whole new printer for 90 quid, but of course you may struggle to find a printer on the shelf at the likes of your local Staples etc.

The reset is holding up at the moment and as I only tend to use it at weekends I can wait for a new tank, but I just wanted to know if you can buy these off the shelf as I hate waiting and still like buying things in a shop.
Many thanks

Can't you just empty it? I've never bought a new waste tank; I'll either empty it myself and use a chip resetter or go through the engineer's menu and reset it that way, depending on the printer. Currently using an Epson 7600, Epson 3880, and TexJet Plus Advanced, and literally just empty the waste tanks myself. Some say to use rolled-up t-shirt fabric in the bottom of the tank to absorb the ink but mine are just empty and haven't given me any issues.

Hi folks... I have a vested interest in the whole waste ink kit side of things but a contact pointed me to this question of when to reset vs' when the pads overflow, crops up a lot so I thought it'd be useful to provide an experienced nugget of intel that hopefully will prove useful.

As a rule, the waste pads themselves have a healthy excess capacity in them to allow for the printer to be shipped or otherwise transported to a service facility without the pads releasing any of their sticky ink cargo. You can imagine that the last thing anyone wants is for their printer to be carried upside down in a box on a back car seat only to find it has leaked everywhere. So, short version long you can usually reset a printers waste ink counter safely and continue printing provided you intend to do something about replacing the waste pads or diverting the flow to an external tank at some point in the not too distant future.

That said, it never pays to assume so if you do go that route, putting the printer on some form of absorbent material and/or a lipped tray to catch any leakage that might occur is a prudent move.

As for printers that have replaceable maintenance boxes, those can often be reset and the pads replaced with something suitable or you can just purchase a replacement. Software utilities don't work to reset such "chipped" boxes though so it pays to plan ahead there.

Hope that's useful...

Martin
