Hi all,
Set up - BMS DF12 press, trupix paper (printing on correct side), sublijet R inks, Ricoh 3110DN printer, BMS grade A 11oz durham mugs. Usual settings - idle 110c, cooking at 180c for 150sec.
I've been sublimating full wrap photo mugs now with no problems for 18months/ ~3000 mugs and my 1st mug blanket started to die so I got a replacement from BMS. The new blanket is thicker than my previous one but is still supposed to be for 11oz mugs. It seems to take longer to get from idle to cooking temp compared with my old blanket, although I've never timed this previously.
Using my previous settings above with the new blanket my mugs were so burnt I couldn't get the paper off! I tried the recommended richo settings of 110/170/140 and this time I could get the paper off but the print was brown and blurry. Called BMS and they were very helpful and suggested trying an idle of 165c, cook at 170c and a time of 80sec to see if the mugs were over cooking. There was some improvement but the paper is still quite browned and the prints still a bit blurry with brown blacks. I even tried cooking for 40 sec to see what happened but the mugs were still blurry. I've tried more and less pressure too but I still can't replicate the quality of image I was getting with my old blanket.
Any ideas gratefully appreciated, I've got orders piling up and I'm wasting too many mugs!!
New mug blanket, blurry images. Is my blanket faulty?
