Vinyl peeling
Re: Vinyl peeling
Have just made 40 hoodies for my daughter's school. MDP hot flex. Pressed for 15 secs at 160 as instructions. Have had 2 people saying that the vinyl had lifted after a wash. I gave instructions to only wash at 40 degrees, inside out and do not iron directly on the vinyl.
Any ideas? This was my first big job and now I feel sick with worry that it has all gone wrong.

Re: Vinyl peeling
When I used to do vinyl I used the MDP hot flex and found the same problem, I remember I tried pressing as per instructions then removed the backing and placed the Teflon sheet over the vinyl and pressed again for 15 secs and never had a problem

Is it worth a call to MDP supplies?

Re: Vinyl peeling
Can the hoodies be repressed or would that not help?

Re: Vinyl peeling
You could cross your fingers but then can you trust the 2 have washed them correctly?
it's no harm calling MDP
I've never repressed so I wouldn't like to say yes

Re: Vinyl peeling
I have several items of my own work wear that haven't failed also my daughter's own one seems ok. Will just have to wait and see. It just doesn't give a good impression when I am just starting out.

Re: Vinyl peeling
If you have used the exact same material and it has not failed for you (following correct washing and drying instructions) then there is no reason why it should fail this time. In my opinion there are only two reasons why this has happened.
1. You have been supplied a bad batch of vinyl from MDP. They are a reputable company so if they have and you call them I am sure that they would say if you are not the only one to complain and would replace it straight away.
or
2. The two customers have not followed the instructions. Personally I think this is the more likely reason why. Most people ignore the instructions particularly when using a tumble dryer.
You can repress the garments, but what I would suggest is that you get both garments back. Take off the current vinyl using some of that removing spray and then repress using new cut vinyl (same material though). Tell the customer that you are sorry that it has happened and that you have replaced with a higher grade vinyl. I would bet my hat that they will not come back because this time they will follow the instructions
As long as you communicate with the customer and try to rectify the situation (even though you are not in the wrong) then it will be fine. And don't worry too much, it happens to a lot of people (see below)....
