Re: replacement blankets - are they all the same?

i suspect the blanket on my bms df1 is on the way out as mugs have become very erratic and it seems to be suffering wild temperature drops (i'm hoping its the blanket and not the controller), and looking on bms i'm in for about 50quid delivered. however when i look about i can find identical looking mug presses with replacement blankets for about 20quid.

i'm assuming they all come out the same chinese factory, i'll be happy to be corrected of course, so does anyone know if they are the same or has replaced their own df1 with a more sensibly priced option?

I know they are not all the same....but whether they are "generally" all the same and just one is different is another matter. Like wise I need a replacement for one of my BMS DF1 presses, just waiting for a point when I need to order some other things to make the most of the postage.
The blanket has done excellent service though so cost per mug has been minimal.

I shall watch replies with interest.

All the same and completely different! Looks can be deceiving. Whereas Mr. Wong may wire the blankets and the controllers one way, Mr. Chan in the factory next door may favour wiring his the other way round. So, you have several possible outcomes. 1) It works! Great! HOWEVER, if your blanket turns out to be incompatible... 2) Your best case scenario is it just doesn't work. 3) Blows the mug wrap. 4) Blows the control box. 5) Blows the mug wrap and the control box. Buyer beware...

Shame the suppliers don't advertise the pin outs of their presses/blankets

A multimeter will soon sort out the pins.

Got a crap 5x multipress kicking around here somewhere that kept blowing wraps when I changed modes..... sussed it out in the end after replacing the 3rd thermistor..... the keyed plug on the various mug/press wraps was such a bad fit that you could EASILY put it in the wrong way round resulting in a loud pop and a puff of smoke as another thermistor tried to protest to 240V up its legs. I'm very good at repairing mug wraps..... shame I don't use em anymore.

same prob here i think....

bms df1 mug press, same blanket for the last 3 yr or so, with very light use but....

i havent used this wee press for about a yr or so, as was busy with phone cases, but we changing direction within this business, and mugs are coming in vogue, but when printing
a mug, the very edge of the blanket is fraid, and the edge of the mugs ( 10oz ) is slightly faded..
i take it this is what you call a buggered blanket then ?

and the bottom of one side also is not heating up right, also due to faded colour of print...
to get full print witout the faded bits anywhere, i have to up the time n temp...which is ok for any colour bar black !!!..as you all know, to much time/temp = browny blacks

but with very little use, can a blanket actually perish just from sitting around ????
dont want to answer my own question but....it seems it can lol....

anyone else confirm please what an actual knackered blanket looks like, and prints mugs like ???

never had anything else to compare with it.

question is now....
new blanket from bms, or buy whols new machine from coral at around £90
got other wee mug press from china, and it works fine....but, me thinks iwill need both

Your description for me is a mug blanket that is no more. Mine has had heavy use, so maybe they expire on a time basis, a sort of built in self destruct function.
Slight irony here.....I do mainly mugs and work for photographers, but not many phone cases. Recently I have had people asking for my mug designs on phone cases. Odd world!

no, not for doing the chicken in....for putting the sub mugs in ;-).
i got 25 o these green mug clamps i used for the mini 3d machines (yuk), so i presume they will work just as well in the oven ?
but i think another new blanket is on the cards here as well....just in case this new oven thing isnt all its cranked up to be
