I use 1+1 for my domain but I use another software to make the website. This "other" software is very good but its getting more and more complicated as they are constantly bringing out upgrades every year.
The last upgrade made me remake my entire website. I was not amused as I didnt have the time or the energy to do it.
1+1 have their own website software.
Does anybody use this and if so how easy is it to use and do you get "seen" in the searches?

From bitter experience with 1 and 1 I wouldn't touch them with a twenty barge poles. I ahd a number of websites with them, and overnight they closed down my account. I had to go to Nominat to get all the sites reassigned to another provider, and it cost me a fortune.

The answer I got from one and one was theat they had a glitch which closed a number of accounts. When asked what they were going to do about restoring etc, they basically said tough, its up to you, its out of our hands.

I would even ask them to register a new domain anymore. I use Fasthosts and they, so far, have been brilliant.

As we're talking about domain names, I'm a registrar for Nominet and can do .uk names. My TAGs are SIGNS and SIGNSERVE.

I looked into that and decided that it cost too much to register, so gave it a miss

Use WordPress. I've just made photographybydavidparker.com in about two days. All registered with hostpapa.com which give you unlimited space and domains

Thanks for the replies.
As I said, I use 1+1 for my domain and have never had a problem with them. Many of my neighbours and customer also use them for telephone and internet and never have problems.
It must be an english problem because here in Germany they are ok.

The program I use for my website is by Incomedia http://www.websitex5.com/en/index.html
Easy to use and a site can be made in a day.

Just thought Id ask about the 1+1 software as it keeps it all under one roof.

There's loads of them out there I think 1 and 1 tend to use a template driven system not disimilar to Wordpress. Wordpress is very good with so many plugins and templates, many free or for minimum cost. The cPanel we use has Softaculaous which streamlines all the free programmes and utilities included with the package. Keeping it all in one place makes sense as all the DNS and mail should automatically be assigned to your name - do make sure your name is automatically renewed though as you can lose track of time or miss the renewal reminder and potentially lose your name.
I don't use Wordpress myself but I've seen some excellent sites that have used it and even more basic ones are fully functional and more than do the job and for free you can't beat it. Just a thought though with 1 and 1 or similar if you were to change your hosting would you lose your site or can it be transferred?

I found the trouble with using the hosting supplied online software is then making changes if you change supplier.
It took a while for me to be convinced about WordPress but now I'm hooked to the point where I'm going to redo another site of mine with it.

Hi Earl. When I lived in Dortmund I also tried "Eins und Eins". They sent me Netscape Composer Pro software which was the simplest of web software I have ever used..... although this was going back to around 1995. The only problem I ever had with them was trying to get out of the contract when switching to Deutsche Telekom, but thats the norm. Other than that they were great to work with. I have just purchased WebsiteX5 and so far have found it to be so easy its unreal!
