CorelDraw X3 - contour cut with a border
Re: CorelDraw X3 - contour cut with a border
Yes.. slowly losing the will to live with this :/
I have a customer who wants to have her logo and separate text put on to a really dark green hoody but doesn't want to go with dual layer black on white vinyl, she wants the logo and separate text printing and done with transfer (as she wants to keep the black text)
I know that with Coreldraw I can create a boundry which I can use to contour cut my design.. BUT my customer wants a white border round her design and text, and I can't think for the life of me how to create a boundry with a border around everything, so it leaves said white border.
Am I dreaming this can be done? or is there actually a way that's going to save my already grey hair?
I honestly think I am losing the plot !!

Very easy....
Type the name/word you want cut.
In the tools column there is a button one which normally has Blend, Distort, Drop Shadow and a few others. One of them is CONTOUR
Select this and while your text is selected click and drag from the centre of the word outwards. You will see a contour develop. Once you are sort of happy with the size etc let go of the mouse button. You will be able to refine it and edit using the tools provide at the top of the screen.
I hope I have described that well enough and hope that it what you were meaning...

Thank you soooooo much Simon for saving my sanity..
Talk about can't see the wood for the trees lol.. I totally overlooked that.
Sometimes it's the simplest of things I overlook and definitely did on that one..
Much appreciated

Re: CorelDraw X3 - contour cut with a border
If you have multiple objects, group them first before using contour tool. X3 does not have rounded corners for contour (x7 does) if you want these, add an outline and then convert outline to object
Re: CorelDraw X3 - contour cut with a border
I would love X7 but it's X3 all the way for now lol.. thanks for that though

I very much liked X3 it was the first I was involved with. Every version gets a little bit better though (and more expensive:)
Re: CorelDraw X3 - contour cut with a border
I would love to upgrade but can't go from 3 to 7 so thinking eventually of subscription to it.. and keeping x3 as my physical copy.

Stick with X3 in my opinion.
Had a complete disaster when we upgraded from X3 to X5 as the newer versions handle EPS files differently. End result is that any files created and exported in X3 for printing on the Roland were pretty much impossible to match if you exported from X5.
Bloomin disaster it was!

Re: CorelDraw X3 - contour cut with a border
I would expect that to be down to the colour management which changed considerably in X5 and was the subject of much debate. In reality the new/er method is more accurate and more inline with the industry apparently but that doesn't and didn't help those using the older versions.
I'm well used to it now and have no issues.
