The only reason i can think of is to boost your feedback, or link to shop buy it now at a more expensive price, or for some very stange reason you want to make a loss, other than that i havnt a clue either.

auctions as a rule come first, also if people go for choose cheapest item first - the 1p auction will come top.
also drives interest and people will be watching the cheap deal and may be disappointed after losing and decide to go and buy the product full price.
it's a small item cost that is a loss leader that may generate some sales or interest.

In another life, I had a BIG eBay shop, with over 14000 positive feedbacks, 100% positive, but in the end the stress of keeping up with eBays numerous policy changes and constant threats from pikey customers to ruin your feedback if you didn't do exactly what they demanded became too much and I closed it down.
Best decision I ever made!
Now I feel like I work for myself instead of eBay, and instead of wasting hours on end dealing with moronic questions I spend the time promoting my businesses and speaking to normal, decent customers who are worth bending over backwards for.
I have no idea why, but eBay just seems to be a magnet for every kind of nutter and cheapskate under the sun. These people would never go into a shop and make the sort of demands they make of eBay sellers, but will happily hide behind their keyboard and make your life hell if you let them.
To all of you out there who still trade on eBay I salute you, You must have far more patience than me

@
Employee -
I/we only have a few items for sale just now on ebay store, adding more as weeks go on but, its seems to be full on - as in, answering questions, sending out samples of this and that (water marked email samples that is) re-adjusting listings ect.
and that's only with a few item listed. God knows what is gonna be like when i start getting more selling allowance to list more inventory

. And we are really still just feeling our way about at the moment on ebay - got a long way to go bud.
We have looked at amazon.co.uk, but is seems to be more of a hassle listing with barcodes and such. Not as straight forward as ebay, but we will get around to it
yes the threat of low DSR's are a worry, as i have read on there forums, even the top rated guys get whacked, and thats just nuts.
Yes some deserve it, but others really don't. Why you really need other outlets to sell from - just in case
