I'm glad I didn't take that job with G4S a few years ago! Oh deary me what a cock up.....not a good start and has definitely tainted proceedings already.

well....that was bloody morbid at the begining.......how dull and depressing was it ?......then came abide with me....jeez i was nearly dam crying....had to turn it off....they played that at my grans funeral.

the end was the best bit.....but all that money...jeez.....better spent feeding the homeless and helping the elerly or getting more young folk into work.....

so what happens to the stadium once the games are finished ?

Oh come on, that opening ceremony was just awesome & stunning. The Queen alone deserves praise for doing the James Bond spoof. I don't think I'm the only one who spotted a theme that might have made Cameron & Co. squirm a bit as it was a bit leftist politics wise with the NHS bit. I admit I can be one of the worlds biggest cynics but, I was so proud of what they achieved. The only thing that I cringed over was Paul McCartney because his voice has now gone & I'm still a big Beatles fan which made me rather sad too. Must admit the Arctic Monkeys did an amazing cover of the old Beatles track Come Together to make up for it.

I missed the first hour of the ceremony....must be repeated on somewhere soon. Wasn't over-impressed with the rest of it but I think I needed to watch it all to really get it. The cauldron was stunning. Paul McCartney, sorry, they should have pulled the plug 'again' that was a real let down for the climax of the ceremony.

With the budget they had available it should have been spectacular. Didn't watch it myself, no interest in that form of entertainment, money could have been better spent elsewhere.

Yes I agree wholeheartedly that the money could have been put to far far better use. I guess the way I put it into prospective is when the Comic Relief type events are on and they raise tens of millions, it's brilliant but a drop in the ocean compared to what's been spent here.

I know it's regenerated the East end of London and will bring in tourist revenue but will it turn a profit? It really is so much money.

O2 Arena fail? Surely you're not referring to the Millennium Dome? While the original concept was controversial, in it's current form it is fabulous. It includes an amazing arena, which is being used for concerts, theatre shows, major tennis tournaments, and a huge amount more. While the permanent "village" in there with restaurants, clubs (albeit I'm a bit old for them so trading on second hand opinion on that one) and cinemas are first class..... really not sure how it could be classed as a fail now to be honest....

Agree with overall comments that opening ceremony (and total) cost is expensive, however it has transformed a truly run down area into an unrivalled state of the art complex. Given how much they were charging for things today - they will certainly be making up the deficit a fair bit!! An awesome atmosphere everywhere though.

I must say, I watched most of the opening ceremony and felt proud to be British. Im in Germany and the next day I went out to see friends and everyone of them said how good it was. Well done England, most of them said. More entertaining and less showy than most of the others. The spoof with the queen, Beckum on the boat going under Tower bridge, the cauldron and even the fireworks were praised. I think England did itself proud with this ceremony.
The security problem was a hickup and great for some political name calling. The cost was probably not as high as some of the other opening ceremonies either. Im sure the NHS and many of the participants did it for glory of being there.
I think its done England some good in this time of doom and gloom in the world. Too much negativity is said about England. If there was an event for negativity then Britain would win the Gold every time.
Mitt Romney attacked our preparedness. Sorry Mr Romney, put your own country straight before critasising ours.
Live out side England and you will see just how good it is. Our infastructure, our comunications systems, TV, culture, music. We are world leaders in most of these things. Even our food is damn good.
