UltraBrite Transfer Media by SunAngel
The UltraBrite transfer media set will allow you to transfer prints from each of the SunAngel series of printers
(including white and fluorescent prints) onto a variety of garments – including dark fabrics.
UltraBrite media works at the lower than usual temperature of 120°C which means you can print onto many
types of synthetic material such as nylon, polyester and poly-cotton blends without the risk of scorching or
melting the fabric.*
UltraBrite transfer media is a weed-free system, ensuring little time is wasted picking and weeding your transfer
prints. Ultrabrite enables you to produce detailed, quality images while dramatically reducing your production
time.
Wash-tested up to 100 washes at 40°C, your images will remain durable and vibrant.*
Designed to work with the SunAngel series of specialist printers, the UltraBrite transfer media range will also
work with many popular colour laser printers – please check with your printer manufacturer to be certain.
*There are many types of coatings and finishes applied to textiles and synthetic fabrics, so make certain adhesion is
satisfactory and test for washability or scuff-resistance when applying transfer media to such materials.
SunAngel UltraBrite transfer media is used as a set, comprising a ‘Transfer Sheet’
and an ‘Adhesive Sheet’ - Please follow the steps below for optimum results:
1. Place transfer sheet into the manual sheet feed of the SunAngel printer, smoothest side up (please note
this is the coated side of the sheet).
2. Set the printer to print from the 'Multipurpose Tray' and set paper type to 'Medium'.
Open the rear printer output tray to make use of the straight-through paper path (see below).
3. Print the image.
· Remember to create the image in reverse to ensure it looks correct when transferred to the garment.
4. Once image is printed, place the adhesive sheet on top of the print, white (adhesive coated) side down –
the image and the adhesive should be face-to-face.
5. Fold a small corner of the adhesive sheet over, prior to pressing – this will make it easier to peel apart
after pressing.
· It is recommended that you run the two sheets together through a laminator on a medium heat
setting prior to pressing - this will ensure all air bubbles are removed.
6. Press the two sheets together using a heat press at 120°C for 30 seconds with a medium-high pressure.

7. Immediately after pressing, peel the adhesive sheet away from the transfer sheet quickly and evenly,
peeling in a smooth, continuous motion. Do not let the print curl or fold as this will ruin your transfer.
· Leave the sheet on the bed of the heat press as you peel away the adhesive sheet, this will give you
a cleaner peel, but please be careful of burning your fingers!
8. Discard the used adhesive sheet.
9. Trim the edges away from the transfer sheet – this will ensure no excess adhesive sticks to the garment.
10. Position the transfer sheet (print side down) onto the garment and press using a heat press at 120°C for
30 seconds with a medium-high pressure.
11. Remove the garment from the heat press and allow to cool.
12. Once the garment is cooled, carefully peel away the transfer sheet and the image will remain on the
garment.
· Place your fingers as close to the printed area as possible, moving them across the garment as you
peel. Try not to stretch the fabric, as this may damage the print. A final optional step is to apply a
finishing paper to the printed area of the garment and press again for 15 seconds.
Applying flood layers with SunAngel printers and UltraBrite transfer media
If there is less than 60% coverage of toner in parts of the image printed on the transfer sheet, the
adhesive sheet may not bond to it properly resulting in transfer failure. To successfully transfer white and
pale coloured areas of an image where the toner coverage is less than 60%, it is necessary to overprint it
with a white flood layer using a SunAngel 32WB or 32DW printer.
1. To produce the flood image, use your graphic design software to produce a mask of the
white/pale areas of the colour image. Set the mask colour to 60% yellow:
Hexadecimal: #FFF383
RGB: R: 255 G: 243 B: 131
CMYK: C: 0% M: 0% Y: 60%K: 0%
Pantone: 100C
· Please note: do not apply a flood layer over areas of the image that already have a high
coverage of toner, such as deep or dark colours, as the flood layer may not bond properly
and could fail when the adhesive layer is applied or reduce the durability of the final image.
2. Print the colour image onto the UltraBrite transfer sheet as described in the previous section
(steps 1 - 3) using a SunAngel 32SC or 32DC printer.
3. Load the printed transfer sheet with the colour image upwards and in the correct orientation into
the multipurpose tray of a SunAngel 32WB or 32DW printer and print the flood image using the
straight-through paper path.
4. Follow steps 4 - 12 in the previous section to complete the image transfer.

that's the process I follow but its very hit and miss with this printer set, they didn't seem to have any issues when I watched them at pnp before I bought it so thought it would be a good investment

Dave thanks for posting this. I still have some Ultrabrite left so will give it another go.

I spoke to Sunangel last week at the Print Live show. I explained my issues of alignment, consistency and paper wrapping around the fuser.. and they basically told me the same info as posted .. print in yellow 60% and try the new Ultrabrite4 papers (they gave me a sample pack). The toner gets laid on too thick.. which causes the fuser wrapping.

They did a demo and the Ultrabrite4 does have a better feel than the Ultrabrite3 papers.

They are looking at offering an A3 single pass solution (CMYW), I already have an A3 Oki (C841) so would just need a white toner/drum unit. If their prices aren't keen then theres an eBay seller selling the white drum/toner for £130.
