@socialgiraffe are you sure you had the 301 set up to print black as just K or did you have it set in default which in auto detect mode would use CYM to make the black as it would have decided that it was an image rather than a text document..

When I did my testing there was a HUGE difference in the blacks between the two machines. As for colour cast due to media used I found no noticeable difference just cost which has now changed as TMT have reduced their price and a slight difference in the resistance to peeling.

Oh don't forget SunAngel produce their own toner for the last 35 years not sure how the colours differ from OKI originals..... Um never thought of running the colour tester on that.... might be worth doing on one of my 301's or 321's just out of curiosity one day.

To be honest, this is just my two pence here, but I think anybody that is serious about this business, and looking to spend a decent amount of money on either of these systems, should be able to make up their own minds about which system suits them better. Yes by the looks of it the SunAngel system eventually gets more expensive, but this might suit some people who don't want the initial high cost. Alternatively, people might prefer the TMT 711 system for different reasons.

Basically, what I'm trying to say, is that everybody's business is different, and what suit's one might not suit another. Also, I think anybody who takes manufacturers figures is asking for trouble. Whether it's a printer, a tv, or a car, different companies have different standards and ways of measuring things, so if at all possible to work out these figures yourself, based on your own needs, it's much better.

Another big deciding point is the space two machines take up as opposed to just one, not everyone has the desk space and having to have a straight paper path means in effect the printer is OVER 1m front to back. I'm fed up with printers..... 15 at the last count :frown:

Just on Autodetect. The quality of the black is not really the issue, although to be honest, both blacks are very good (my camera work is useless though). It was just to show that I get the same deep black from both machines.

You are spot on Spongebob. However, my original costing thread was just to point out that the SA system is more expensive after about 1000 prints, the actual cost will always be more. All my figures are based on OKI's data which is the benchmark for both machines. You are also correct, the lower entry level price probably suits a lot of people more than purchasing a more expensive printer. I suppose its a bit like those who purchase a £30 epson and refillable carts v those who purchase an A3 Ricoh. You pays your money and takes your choice. My bug bear is that SA are now mis quoting and skewing figures which is not right.

That's fair enough. The joys of this business!! I've just had a look at a sample printed t-shirt that TMT gave us a while back, and unfortunately there is no black in it to take a look at! The print quality is quite good though. That'd probably be the first thing I'd check if purchasing either system, as to me the quality of the end product is to a certain extent more important then the cost of producing. A higher quality end product can attract a higher selling price.

Spot on there as well. Regardless of the system purchased, they will both make money for the operator in the long term.

thinking of buying a white printer today, can not afford a TMT one so may go ahead with the sunangel as its well in my price range, so hopefully will give my report on it next week.
Simon, I have read and respect your views but I need to give it a try and if after the first prints I regret my choice then the it's only £400 down the drain rather than £2k plus
i will return with report....

I think people are mis reading what I am saying here....

I do not think the Sun Angel system is a bad system, I have not tested it so can not comment. All I can say is that it is not as cheap as they make it to be, that's all.

Hope it does well for you Dave (I am sure it will).

I may be wrong, but I think you'll need both printers to get full colour prints, unless it's just black and white your after?
