It might, there are many reasons as to why you get the banding, heat press, printer issues, mug coating issues and my suggestion is just one of them. From my understanding you can get the banding when the bottom of the mug (always the coldest part) is not the same temperature as the rest of the mug. By pre warming you remove this problem.
As well as increasing the pressure you will not do any harm if you also pre warm the mug before pressing.
Another way you can do it (depending on your press) is by pressing the mug from cold. Put the mug in the press and then start to heat it up. This way the mug will be an even temperature all round.
