Try a completely different orange - perhaps Pantone 021

Just trying to eliminate if its the actual colour breakdown or the printer that is the problem....

Thanks for suggestion. When I convert Pantone 021 to RGB it's: 254,80,0 which shows as "out of gamut".

I just printed and produced a photo slate to compare it to one I made a few months ago (picture of my daughter for my wife).

The product match is spot-on and the on-screen match is pretty good too. Although there is no real orange in this picture I would have thought if it were printer problems then some colours would be off, especially the pink.

I Also thought it might be my ink as it must be close to exp' date (no I didn't check the date when I put it in) but on the head test all 4 colours printed just fine.

There is also a similar colour on the trim of the glove in above image - which is also spot on to actual glove.

Following on from your Pantone advice I've now noticed that if I use the colour picker to select anything approaching red or orange it shows as Out Of Gamut.

Download Gimp! See if its s/w issue.

Or choose an orange from the CMYK range. RGB is too broad for this ink. It wants it more specific.

Gimp - Good idea but I'll save it as a last resort as really don't want to put more software on my already slow PC.

can you try using ICC instead of powerdriver? is very easy to set up in photoshop and you may find it much better (or not ) with printing.

Do you have a ICC for this machine dude? I'd like one to use with Gimp. Many said you are the man for ICC'S but I never caught you around!

If you're using Photoshop, then you should the ICC and let Photoshop do its job, and not hold it back with PowerDriver. If you have colour management set up correctly in Photoshop it is a much more powerful tool, especially if you put it into proof view with the out of gammut view on (even more so if your monitor is calibrated) as it will give you an onscreen approximation of how the colours will print out as well as show colours it can't print. Doing this with a custom ICC will give you the best colour printing accuracy available for your printer/ink/transfer paper combination.

So I should ditch Gimp?
