Re: 2 Vinyl questions

Post by Nemo »

Hi there..

as as a newbie, I have a couple of questions:

1. Can I use 123flex tyle vinyl Heat pressed logos on to this product? Is there anything I'd need to do to pre treat it?

https://shop.ralawise.com/products/r204 ... indcheater

2. If I win this job, I'm going to need more than 90 metres of white vinyl - are there places you can recommend for bulk prices? I was going to buy from 123flex from Magic Touch. I'll be printing onto a selection of 100% t shirts, polos (65/35), sweats (65/35), fleece (is it ok to print into fleece?!) and wind cheaters. Is this the best product to use?

Thanks so much for your advice!

Not sure about 123 onto that fabric, someone else will be along no doubt to answer that :-) I don't know how it would react under the heat.

90m of vinyl is a huge amount to weed and press, would you not be better off looking at an alternative method, screen print perhaps? Depends on your design.

Vinyl isn't much good on fleece as it crushes the pile. You can put it on by overlaying another fleece which does protect the pile a little but it doesn't look very good. Maybe hoodies would be an option instead?

Mdp is cheaper than the magic touch if you buy logs of vinyl, 20 metres of white is £96 inc vat, so you've got nearly £450 on vinyl, as Justin has suggested, consider screen printing, it will save you time and money, on large volumes of garments screen printing will be the cheapest option, especially in one colour with no base.

The windcheaters won't require a pre treatment, but the glue from the vinyl will seep through the garment so ensure you protect you platen, otherwise it'll leave a white residue, this residue will be visible from inside the coat too.

fleeces can be printed, but use another section of fleece ( as suggested ) the finish isn't the best, but it depends on your design, the fleece is crushed and the vinyl looks a little wrinkled as it's not a smooth surface to adhere to

good luck with your quote !

Mdp is cheaper than the magic touch if you buy logs of vinyl
MDP WHITE FLEX £4.35 PER METER @ 500MM WIDE
TMT 123 FLEX £3.96 PER METER @ 500MM WIDE

So The Magic Touch is cheaper!
Also, the pressing time of 123 flex is a lot quicker so you will have the job done in less time.

I would suggest you get a windcheater and test the vinyl first, the polyester part is fine, but the coating may melt. You do have the advantage that 123 flex will press from as low as about 130 degrees (just up the time to 25 seconds) so you might be okay.

Lastly, consider flock on to the fleece, I agree with the above points about fleece's but if the client insists then flock will be a lot better than vinyl.

would you not be better off looking at an alternative method, screen print perhaps? Depends on your design.
They could be personalised garments. As the summer starts to kick in so do the promotional t-shirts for a huge client of mine, that means back on the 3 rolls of white vinyl rolls a month because every single garments is different :-(.

123 premium i would have said for the windcheaters, as you can press as low as 125 i think, but call them first,

Thanks for the heads up on this one, spoke with tmt at the trade show and they couldn't match the log price of 20 metres, like for like mdp is £3.97 per metre for 20m on a log, and tmt £4.25 per metre when buying 20, but now they have over 25 metres at £3.96.. That's fab, we shall certainly switch, our vinyl use has increased quite substantially, a local military base has come on board with us for personalised garments, so the 123 will be fab in sorting a few regiments over the coming months !
Many thanks again, have found this forum very helpful, and now we are expanding to a new premise I hope to look in and contribute / get advice more :-)

Back again... Still thinking through this scenario. Justin above suggested screen printing for a job this size which I initially dismissed as that is not what I am planning to be doing. However, am I now right in thinking its possible to get screen printed transfers produced via a supplier, sent to me, and we apply those ourselves to the garments? If so. Can anyone give me an idea of costs for such transfers? Can these be applied to all types of materials or would I still need to fulfil some if the order using vinyl? We're looking at around 650 logos around 25cm x 20cm in White. Also, can anyone recommend anyone that can provide such a service..?

thanks..
