Re: Can you help to choose right printer

Hi everyone,
I need help with choosing the right printer for sublimation of t-shirts, mugs and phone cases. I read that Epson artisan 1430 could be a good choice. I don't know maybe some 4 color model could better. I want to use (non supported inks name removed by admin) inks, because I can get them in my country and they are more affordable than Sawgrass. The problems are ICC profiles. This brand of inks support just wide format printers, but I found that there can be done custom ICC profiles. I think that this solution could work for me. I would be very thankful if you could suggest me some good Epson printer for sublimation.

You can have a custom ICC profile made for any printer and ink combination.

Please remember that we are unable to discuss non Sawgrass supported inks on the forum due to the Sawgrass patents, thank you.

Ok, can you help me with choosing printer. I need a good quality printer that can print nice a be economical. A lot of people have Epsons for this job, so I think that some model from this brand could be suitable.

Had you gone down the sawgrass route you could be in business now and making money....

My suggestion (and feel free to ignore it) would be learn the business first, then learn about coming away from supported products later.

That doesn't directly answer your question about which printer, but it does help you make money, which I guess is the intention.

I am inclined to agree with Janners, if you just dipping your toe in the water to see if its all going to be worth while I would (did) take the easy route ie complete package from a reputable dealer. They supplied the printer, ink (Sawgrass), paper (Truepix) press, mugs the lot - that way if any issues there were no variables regarding quality of media and equipment. I was up and running from day one producing good quality samples and paid for items. Should the day come when I am selling hundreds of mugs a day (unlikely) I will explore a more economical route of production where a few pence saved equated to more money, off-setting any wastage of time and product stting up.

For the record Sawgrass may well have the best product but I don't think they do themselves any favours with what seems an over vigorous patent whatever that restricts discussion on a forum and I find it hard to believe that it is beyond their abilities to produce an ink with a longer shelf life or potentially restricts competition. Every supplier seems to sell their ink for the same price so are they getting together or is it pressure from the manufacturer?. If a company does not encourage loyalty then customers will leave at the first opportunity. It would be an interesting survey - If you didn't have to use Sawgrass ink, would you use it anyway or would you change to a more flexible manufacturer.

Just playing devils advocate here.

My starter set up came from Listawood who were at the Sign and digital show in Birmingham last year. I am well satisfied with the setup and I see that there are many suppliers who offer virtually the same. Almost all will offer a Ricoh printer with the Sawgrass ink. I have an aversion, rightly or wrongly to Ebay but you pay your money and take your pick.

Hi Alsus

I would recommend looking at the Sawgrass website and locating one of their recommended dealers. It looks as if there is only one for Slovenia. Hope that helps
