Re: Pigment Inks, Gel inks, Refillable cartridges,

Post by timeleecoops »

First of all I would like to say Hi I am new to this group and I am looking forward to getting started. But I have definitely hit a speed hump as far as the printer and inks go. I finally settled on a ricoh sg3110dnw after much research and a small budget like many of us on here. But now I am lost as far as inks go. It seems to be the more I read the more I get confused! There is so many choices. There is pigment inks, gel inks and then if that's not enough to co fuse one, let's put In the added option of a refillable cartridges or buying new ones? What I would love to know is, what inks can be usedfor transfers on all material, wood to fabric & glass? And are the refillable cartridges any good? Any help would be appreciated. I have scanned through the FAQs but couldn't find out anything.

I have a small Ricoh too and it is my understanding only one ink goes in it for sublimation and that is the Sawgrass Sublijet R. The cartridges do last ages and a low ink message does not mean you are about to run out, apparently the printer will stop when a cartridge is completely empty and as they have a shelf life and supply is usually next day (not usually a problem unless you are a volume user) I wouldn't have too many spares.
This is my understanding and I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong:)

Alan is right. There is almast no alternative. So choice is simple :) sublijest-r is your choice for sublimation ink for your ricoh. They are all same price wherever you go but some suppliers give discount codes to premium members of this forum so you can save youself a few £££.

Refillable cartridges and ink choices are for Epson printers. Ricoh is full priced branded gel ink and that's yer lot. Only purchase sublimation ink, don't put pigment ink into your printer ever.

Thanks guys, the reason i asked about the refillable catridges is because i have seen some that suit the ricoh printer and the sg3110dnw, was just unsure whether or not they perform as well as the normal cartridges.

This is the refillable cartridges i was talking about. I was going to fill them with sublimation ink also. I was just thinking of it being the cheaper and hopefully better alternative. My printer is a Ricoh SG3110DNw.

If you are planning to put some Chinese gel ink (if it exists) into those, you are using it at your own risk. You could buy standard (non gel) bulk sublimation ink, but it would need to go into an Epson printer.

Is that a wireless 3110dn? I thought that they could not be used as sublimation printer.
