Re: Coreldraw help please :0)

Post by liannef »

Hi
I have templates setup in coreldraw and I import jpegs etc and click enter so the full size appears and then I can scale down to fit inside the template etc. However sometimes it shows the full sizes and other times not. This time I have a photo which is 600 x 400 pixels and when i import it it's more business card size so smaller than my template area so would have to increase it's size to get it to fit and worry it will be pixelated. Anyone know if there is a setting where Corel automatically rescales imported files? as my customer is struggling to find the original.
Thanks
Lianne

The customer has sent you a small low resolution image. To see if it will be pixelated just import and scale it as you would normally, then preview at 100% in your print screen.
If pixelated then not much you can do.

Hi Janners, thanks for replying. When I view the image in say irfanview at full size it's the size of a5 I guess and is only going on a teddy t-shirt so when imported into coreldraw if it showed the actual size then it would be bigger than the size of my template which is only about 9cm square. Am I being thick, why doesn't corel show the actual size for this image like it has done for others I've imported that have only been about 1000 pixels? I had a logo which was 1400 pixels and when imported it showed a much smaller version when pressing enter so just did the drag to fit the space for that one but this one is a powerclip so need to move it around abit and scale.

If I "import" the image comes in at what ever size I drag it out to. If I copy and paste it puts it at the original size. If power clipping I just do whichever, change the size in the top right of the screen to what ever is needed, then if needed just drop it into a power clip.
I am on X6 so I guess it depends on what version you are using.

Other than that .... no idea!

It all depends on the resolution set in CD. Go to page setup to check what you have. It governs the size you see the pic in your template. If it says 200, then your 600 x 400 picture will resolve to 3in x 2in. (i.e. 600 x 400 divided by 200)

Scaling up the picture to fit your template or reducing the resolution to say 100 has the same effect. A picture with too small a resolution will always be that.

Irfanview is using a different calculation to show the image. Go Image->information. It shows the resolution it's going to use to display the pic. So if it says 100 the pic will resolve to 6in x 4in on the screen.

To work out what size you need from your customer multiply the required pic size by the CD resolution. You can "get away with" 96 although CD will give you a warning. Personally, I run with 200 as a min but would prefer to use 300.

Agree with Skye. Corel always seems to import as 72 dpi only going to actual resolution when resized to originating size. I generally tell people to send the best they have and I'll sort it out this end, like Skye I would normally prefer 200 - 300 dpi finshed size.
Its not all about resolution though a 3mp camera would be better than a 8mp phone camera simply because the camera would probably have a better lens than the phone.
FYI I use a programme called Photozoom from Benvista for up-sampling photos, you can't do much with low resolution ones but it does a good job on others not only resampling but also reducing artifacts in JPG
