Re: suitable printer

Post by themojo »

I am a newcomer to dye sub, and as yet have not bought any equipment. I have discovered that I will have to spend more than I thought on heat presses as I thought a 5 in 1 press (for mugs, t shirts and plates) would be OK, but I have ben told they are rubbish. So now I have to economise on a printer. Would a Epson XP-100 be OK, yes it does take dye sub inks, I would appreciate any help, without recommending the most expensive printer on the market as I am an aged pensioner and funds are limited

Hi,

If you already have the Epson, I imagine someone on here could advise on it's suitability. If, however you're buying new, I, and many others, have found the Ricoh SG-3110DN A4 Colour Geljet Printer to be both efficient and reliable. It's also available for less than £100 on Amazon.

Hi themojo,

Your reference to $200 AUS sort of suggests you might be in Australia. If I remember correctly, that would be somewhere down Moruya way, or maybe Narooma. I used to spend time around Bermagui and Bega.

Anyway, if you PM me I'll send you my email address. I can help you with some infor from an Aussie point of view, especially what to avoid, and maybe some ideas for starting out.

Everything else you need to know is here on this forum, and many people here are far better at this than I am. I do it for fun, and because I had a heap of equipment left over when I was forced out of my computer business by serious injuries.

I made a lot of really bad purchases when I started. I also found some things that seem to work really well.

I'm even happy to send you a couple of example products to show you what you can produce.

Cheers,

Hi themojo,

To PM anyone here just click their name in the left section next to the post, and Private Message is one of the options. In the mean time I will send you an email.

I won;t try to teach you Dye Sublimation. You will only learn bad habits from me and you;re better taking notice of, and asking Paul, pisquee and some of the others.

I will give you some hints on where to buy blanks and where NOT to buy - which is even more important when you are starting out. And also affordable equipment to get started. There are things you need and things that are nice to have. The two lists are not always identical.

It is close to 40 degrees Celsius in here at the moment, so I'll do the email when the temperature inside drops to something nice and cool. Like about 35deg C.
