Hi All

Any of you good people know anything about the above machine? Its a type P10 not the latest Designer 1 USB.

My wife teaches textiles at a secondary school and she has one of these machines in her classroom but little idea of how to use it, but more importantly no software to create embroidery in or to digitise existing images into an embroidery format. I don't even know what file types it will accept. The machine cost a fortune (in school class budget terms) some years ago and the person who purchased it didn't buy any software because it was expensive! As I have shown an interest in embroidery machines recently it seems that I unwittingly volunteered myself in to trying to get this embroidery machine up and running - its strange because I really don't remember offering ;o)

Any one have more of a clue than me about this?

I think that's an older machine that takes floppy discs?

Made around 2004 ish

SHV / HUS files embird saves in this, but you would need something like the magic box, ultimate box to save to the floppy.

all old stuff nowadays.

There is a support group on google for the designer 1. They were produced and sold around 2006 for £2600. Latest version has usb interface (which I am told can be retro-fitted). Husquavarna website here.
If you contact them they are very helpful. My mum had a great Husquavarna for years, with cams for the different stitches but it died and they couldn't repair it. She could sew soles onto boots! She also used this company's software to design her clothing pattern pieces.
The real secret is to wisdom is to listen to the wise and follow their advice

Hi David

I am told that the machine in question was in the order of £2k. Thanks for the link to the users group - could be a really useful source of information.

Hi Arthur

I have a Designer 1 with floppy drive. It came with the Husqvarna software & a dongle. I have to run my version under a virtual machine as it's not supported by Windows 7 (or Vista??).

I've also use Sierra Stitch Era Universal here . It was free, but just checked it out & it's now on a monthly subscription with free 48hour trial.

There are built-in options for simple designs and fonts. Do you have a user manual for it? I could scan it for you - PM me.

Hi Karen

I have emailed Husqvarna Viking to see if they can supply a manual and asking if any software was shipped with the machine -we live in hope - there wasn't a dongle in the box but it may be in a filing cabinet somewhere. A PC isn't a problem I can lay my hands on a very useable XP machine with oodles of RAM and a pretty slick processor (in its day). If HV don't come up with the goods I'll take you up on your offer of a scan of the manual.

The kids have used the built in simple designer but it is very limited in what it can do and doesn't exactly set the pulse racing with the possibilities of the system!
