Has anyone managed to print without having margins on the 3110DN? We use mug paper and always have to leave a 5mm margin so this leaves an even larger white border when the mug paper is on the mug. If we could print to the edge of the mug paper then at least we would get nearer the handle, top and bottom. Thank you in advance. Olly

I have just had to create another mug template to cope with mugs that taper at the bottom. Supposed to be good quality but I guess this happens. Anyway the print quality is visibly reduced. I think 7mm (was 5mm) top/bottom margin is ok - for my application. How close to the handle you can print is probably determined by the heated area of the press and again I would not push this too far.

I use an A4 sheet for each mug and don't worry about the 14p cost per page. I trim (Rotatrim) according to the guide marks leaving about 10mm sticking out above the mug. This give me something to grab when peeling off the paper after pressing.

Trimming the base lets me offer the paper to the mug with both on the table to keep it level all round while pressing down the tape.

Probably the easiest thing is to print on a4 and experiment to see where/if the image starts to fade on all 4 edges.

Have you tried pre-heating your bases, usually need to do that on those mugs, I've noticed a slight taper recently as I've been testing an alternative as well.

Adkins Mug press, pre-heat the lower inch for about 10 seconds.

With regards to how close to the edge of the paper you can get with a ricoh 3110dn go to Devices and Printers right click your ricoh and select printing preferences. In this menu click the Detailed Settings tab at the top, now just under the tabs you should see menu: and some options (job setup, basic, paper, edit, finishing etc) click edit. Now underneath that there are some more options scoll to the bottom and you should see the printable area drop down menu set this to maximum and hit apply, your ricoh should now print as close as it can to the edge.

Hi Galerion. Thanks for advice but when I checked it was set to maximum. I presume I might have to resort to standard A4 paper and print out larger area and cut manually. Just about to do a run of solid colour mugs so will try the trick of pre-heating first Justin, thanks. Olly

FAQ on our website on this specific point, pasted below for you:

"I've been struggling to get the Ricoh 3300N to print full A4 too, to allow me to print on A4 jigsaws. I can never get it quite right - always a tiny strip of white left on the edge of the jigsaw. It's almost as if the printer can see the edges of the paper even when you try to fool it by selecting a larger paper type.

I contacted Sawgrass yesterday and asked if there was a way around it. They advised that the printer can print "US Legal" paper which is wider and longer than A4 (it measures 8.5" x 14"). So, I cut up a piece of A3 paper to these dimensions and placed it in the paper tray (the tray needs to be extended to fit US Legal paper, but there are 2 plastic lugs on each side allowing you to do this). I opened my A4 template in PhotoShop, dragged the photo in and went to print. In the "Print" screen, I clicked "Page Setup" to open the PowerDriver screen - here I selected Paper Size "Legal". Back in PhotoShop I selected "Centre Image" and de-selected "Scale to fit media".

Hey Presto!!! Out popped a lovely page with an A4 image right in the centre!"

I'm guessing your using mug paper from somewhere like subliblanks, I looked at it and decided the dimensions of it were to small but have been thinking about cutting a4 in half and setting the ricoh to a custom paper size to avoid the wastage of paper when you have a odd number of mugs to print. Don't be tempted to put the paper back in after cutting out a mug while its set to a4 as the printhead might catch on the edge of the paper and damage the printhead.
