Re: Question about using Ricoh original ink cartridge.

Post by Cfphoto »

Hello,

let me introduce myself first before I continue with my question.

My name is Cheryl, I have been running my own photography studio for about three years now. Recently have taken on a new shop. I have decided to trial run offering mug printing and, if all goes well, other printed items too as my clients often take my images to other places to get this done so why not offer them it with me.

I have purchased a Ricoh SG3110DN. I have seen the occasional post about using the Ricoh original ink cartridges. Is there a problem with them? If I use them, would I no longer be able to use other inks? Just wondering if someone can explain it to me a little.

I'm so sorry if it is a very stupid question. I am a complete newbie to this. I may have completely misread things but I though it would be best to ask.

Thank you for reading my post.

Hi thee!
You need sublimation inks to print on mugs. Oryginal inks that came with the printer are standard inks that would not work.

Ah, right! I did think this may have been the case. Thank you very much for confirming it and preventing me from making that mistake! Is it the sawgrass inks that would be recommended for this? Is there another brand?

you haven't put the original inks in the printer have you?? - it is still virginal and un contaminated with anything other than Sawgrass ink?

Ideally you would have purchased the printer along with a set of inks from an approved supplier - that way Sawgrass pick up the warranty on the printer (Ricoh disown you as soon as you put anything other than their inks in the printer). Its also probably cheaper as you can use your premium membership discount with quite a few suppliers.

Its tempting to buy a cheap 3110 on line, take out the unopened Ricoh inks and flog them on ebay for a few quid to help offset the cost of the sawgrass ink, however, I am not sure if faailing to buy the printer from an approved supplier - they will know from the serial number, I don't know if you will get full support from them. Support from Sawgrass is really useful for newbies setting up a printer and its drivers for the first time, the techie phone boys in Sheffield are really good at talking you through the set up even when any problems have been caused by you missing out an entire step in the set up procedure - ahem , not once, but twice

Unfortunately i just purchased new off an ebay seller (I know, I know). Just figured I would buy the inks later but heard it may come with original inks? I could be wrong. I haven't received it yet.

Surely if I then purchase the sawgrass inks and need help, they would still help me or does it have to be if you bought the printer and inks together?

Many thanks for your reply. :)
