Black dots on my cases
Re: Black dots on my cases
Hi All,
I've been sublimating a few months now and recently have started getting black dots on my phone cases. It's no hassle if its a picture case but when someone wants a pure white case with a small logo it because a huge issue as there are black dots all over the cases. I have made sure the paper has nothing on it before and after printing and also before pressing also the cases dont have the black dots.
I use BIG RED (ST3042), sawgrass inks and Trupix paper, has anyone else had this issue?

Oh, that's really bizarre. I haven't ever pressed a case with a lot of white space although I do have several with a very (almost-white) pale grey and have never experienced that. I'm using exactly the same equipment that you are. How new is the paper? Actually, I just remembered making ONE case for the guy who was in painting my office - he liked the cases, had an i5 and asked if he could get one with his logo on it so I rattled one up for him and it was entirely blank down the left side of the face and there were no imperfections.
Oddly enough, I get the same thing you're talking about when I'm sublimating shirts. I've tried so many different types of paper as the backing sheet (to prevent ink seeping on to my press' mat) and the overlay sheet (to prevent it seeping on to the top platen), but I will almost always end up with two or three speckles on the blank area of shirt after pressing. I've since put it down to the polyester weave itself rather than the papers as it even does it when I use another sheet of TruPix as the overlay sheet, so the fibres must already be in the weave and are just discolouring with the heat. If that's the case, then perhaps the cases you're currently using are defective.
This is all just the speculation of a guy who's fed up with aberrations on his shirts though!

I've seen black dots on my white cases before, I think it's a speck of dirt or dust melting into the case.

Paper is about 2 months old opened a couple of weeks ago. Im guessing there must be something on the paper as I use baking paper and theyre still there.ArtyGamer;91043 wrote:Oh, that's really bizarre. Makes sense actually as ive recently moved and I think its only happened since my move and currently im living on a building site and every lorry that goes into the sites kicks up loads of dust outside my house which I guess is getting in. I have avoided this by keeping my windows shut. I think im going to give my ricoh a good clean over today.

Re: Black dots on my cases
I've noticed a similar problem with things I make with my flat press, but in my case, the dots rub off with minimal effort with a wet wipe.Oaten;91036 wrote:Hi All,

Re: Black dots on my cases
I've finally found this issue. Its coming from the printing there are tiny black dots all over the paper so I guess they are dots of ink from the printer. Can anyone suggest cleaning tips?
Re: Black dots on my cases
I had a clean up last night with window cleaner all the inside of my printer and the black dots have drastically reduced but there are a couple still there but im going to have another clean later. The issue I have now are my prints now have streaks which i guess is due to moisture so I will be going over twice to make sure its fully dry.
Thanks for the help guys!
