So yeah, last week I decided to take the plunge with making some 3D cases for the Samsung S5. Bought the jig and a handful of cases to play around with, and ordered a dummy S5 from eBay which was listed as 1:1 ratio. Tried them for the first time last night and the first case ended up pretty badly warped when I tried to test the finished product on my own S5. Turns out that the dummy is at least 1mm smaller on all sides, so when it's put into a newly-pressed case and into the cold water, it shrinks to fit the dummy but then no longer fits an actual S5.

After wasting a half dozen cases trying to find other ways to do it, such as putting it straight into the water (which warped it beyond belief), I opted for the unthinkable... I put it straight on my own S5 and dropped it into the water. I know that it's supposed to be waterproof, but Casio said that about my calculator watch in 1983 and they were lying, so I was seriously anxious for the ten or twenty seconds that it was in the water. Came out fine though, perfect-fitting case and a phone which still works.

Definitely need to try another method though, or I'll end up doing some serious damage to the phone with the constant high-temp to low-temp switching. Ordered a different dummy today and hopefully it'll fit.

Don't get me wrong... for a solar-powered watch with built-in calculator and a perfect version of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik as its alarm it was a GREAT little piece of kit. I only wish I hadn't noticed the "waterproof to 100m" etching on the back that day. I lived directly across from our local leisure centre and went swimming every night... so this one particular night I decided I'd keep my watch on. As you do. Just in case the HUGE clock on the wall of the swimming pool wasn't large enough and you needed to know the time for whatever reason.

I buried it the next morning, right next to my hamster.

I was using my S5 and a cooling mould to start off with and the loud speaker went and when ringing samsung they told me its water RESISTANT, so be careful. Also Ive now since been using a dummy phone and all my cases seem to be fine.

ushi, it's the regular UK release SM-G900F and all the cases fit it perfectly even after they come straight out of the vacuum press. The only time they don't fit is when they go on to the dummy phones to cool, then they become warped. The LTE-A model looks seriously impressive though.

Oaten, what does your dummy look like? I had a new one delivered today and it's exactly the same as the original one I bought, with the date of "Mon, 24 februny" on it even though the image used on the listing showed it as "Mon, 24 February" which is why I was hoping that it would be a different dummy. I'm now looking at buying a broken one from eBay even though I'd end up having to pay £180+ for it. Would rather do that than ruin my own though. Ideal scenario would be to go into the various phone shops in the city, ask if I can try my case on their dummy and then buy one of their spares if they have any. At this rate, I've bought an S5 jig and a carton of cases that I won't be able to use.

Do you have a template for the S5 you can upload here to the download section? I downloaded your other templates, they work great!

Your a brave man - I have a Z1 and It's supposed to be completely water resistant but I haven't dared.

I know a lot of people use dummy cases but I just use the cooling jigs (no water) and make sure they are set nice and tight.

So far I have done i4, i5, i5C, S3 and I haven't had a problem yet.

Do you not sell S4 and S5 3D then?

I have been printing a lot of the S4 and S5 and took a walk up my local mobile shop and asked them if I could test. Fortunately they said yes, but I think the only answer is to purchase the actual phone model each time it comes out.
