Power Cut = Both Ricoh's Purge.. Gutted
Re: Power Cut = Both Ricoh's Purge.. Gutted
They shut down my Mac, its either 'Power Remaining in the battery' - 'Time running from the UPS' or 'Time remaining in battery' BUT I have found that the Bulldog software will not work with anything over oSx 10.5 - I'm on 10.9 but there is UPS support built into Macs which just work.
There's no way of telling battery state (although we do get a percentage indicator) - we cant tell how much time the battery will give us either.
So I have it set to power down after 5 mins.
If away then the printers would lose power, and purge but this will save a lot of grief here now as I have One side of my room connected - so printing, cameo and Mac should be able to finish its current job in a power cut.
Arthur, if you shut these down each time you are not loosing ink - the problem comes if you yank out the power cable..

Re: Power Cut = Both Ricoh's Purge.. Gutted
Interesting thread.
If I have understood, disconnecting the mains power as in a power cut will cause the printer to purge when power is restored. If you use a no volt release (NVR) device such as a plug in mower protector or a UPS with shutdown facility (before batteries go flat) you are still effectively disconnecting the mains supply. How do you prevent a purge when powering from the mains again ?

That hedge cutter protection device is no good for this - it cant help.
a UPS will keep the printers powered when the power supply is cut until the battery goes flat - when the battery is flat you still have a 'Lost Power' situation BUT you get the chance to power down the printer IF YOU ARE ABLE TO.. if you are out you cant do that obviously.
There is no way to have the UPS power down the printer either like it does with computers
So, a UPS is just another line of defense.

Re: Power Cut = Both Ricoh's Purge.. Gutted
Just woke up the Ricoh again - had 16% Cyna left - flaming thing did it's maintenance thing again and flushed a load of ink out (again) so now I am down to 1% Cyan..
Excellent - this has been the most expensive printer I have ever had, and ever will have
There is clearly a problem with this machine but what can I say ? "its P*ssed all the ink away ?"
Really unhappy with this.
I have done 213 prints ! And they will all have been Mugs sized images.

Nik
There is something wrong with your printer, it should not have used so much ink so quickly. Both my Ricoh's combined would not go through so many cycles, out of interest, you have two of these machines, does the other one with normal inks do the same thing? If not then it sort of proves there is a problem with one of them, if however they both do the same then it may well be the way it is.
I remember screaming at Roland last year, telling them to take the ink guzzling piece of crap away as I am not purchasing a metallic ink cart every two months at £160 a time when I have not used metallic in any print during that time. I was absolutely livid and let Roland know. Turns out I had to apologise an hour later as it had not been two months but 8 months since I last replaced that ink
So what I am saying is you may want to write down everything you print and when you load a new cart just to make sure its not your imagination

Re: Power Cut = Both Ricoh's Purge.. Gutted
I did just write to BMS and added Screenshots - I do have another Ricoh, same model (not sure if it is the same batch though as I bought this one a few months after the Sub One) and it is no problem at all.
This is the reason I am convinced that there is a problem with it, nobody can go on like this with a printer wasting the most expensive there probably is on the Planet per ml.
So, I have done all I can really for now - just have to wait and see what they say.
I most certainly cannot afford to carry on like this

Re: Power Cut = Both Ricoh's Purge.. Gutted
Hi Nick, just a thought. My Ricoh had an issue ware it was just flushing ink away. I called the supplier and they sent a new printer and ink. It was 6 months old. On another note are you sure it was't a power spike that caused the problem, I would think it more likely to damage electronics than a failure.
Re: Power Cut = Both Ricoh's Purge.. Gutted
Very pleased to announce that I have another Ricoh and set of Ink from BMS/Sawgrass - Just setting it up now but I thought I would get a screenshot of the remaining ink after you have charged the machine (You only have to do this Once).
I have been very pleased with BMS, Scott even called and offered to produce any prints for me whilst my machine was out of action - top marks for service and support there
