I don't think the printer will do anything with the cartridge clip remaining open so this should be closed. I would switch off the printer, leave for around 15-20 seconds and switch back on again. This doesn't cause the printer to purge as I've just done the same thing on my Ricoh SG3110. It may take a few seconds for the blue light to switch off and when power is reconnected press the button until the blue light comes back on. It will whir for about 5 seconds and then should show the ink levels.NikGrey;90330 wrote:The front panel is not giving anything away.
Also, the printer status is 'In Use' as I sent a job to it.
Just sent the numbers via email.
Ricoh will not start :(

Re: Ricoh will not start :(
I realise leaving that cover open would cause it to have a fit, or at least the Red light comes on (Just tried it with my remaining Ricoh). I had that open to get the serial of the machine and get a cart out for the image (again for the batch number).
Can't turn it off - the power button does nothing, I could of course cut the power ! is that what you are suggesting I do Scott?
I have 17% ink remaining in Cyan and Yellow (from what I can remember) and have jobs on the table waiting to get done so don't want to cut the power just for it to waste my remaining ink
Of course I know you are trying to help but I am between a rock and a hard place today - I have done everything by the book, bought from a reputable reseller - proper Sublijet-R carts.. arghhh.
As this is currently 'Sleeping' it may well not 'Purge' but I want clarification before I do that. I'm sure you understand my predicament, a man like you must have seen such problems before (Not a good idea to admit it though of course..lol).

Re: Ricoh will not start :(
I have had a similar problem on my 3110. The cure appeared to be one or all of the following -
shut down printer and restart,
if its you doing a controlled restart of the printer it shouldn't go through a clean and prime routine,
clear print que in computer, resend print job,
if printer doesn't fire up in its usual time - use control panel on the front of the 3110 to open any sub menu and then go back to the standby screen.
Usually the printer then fires up and prints.
I occasionally have to do the pressing printer control panel buttons thing to get the printer to wake up - I send a print job but the 3110 just won't wake up.
I have much the same problem with my 15 year old son, he has jobs to do but just won't wake up. I am considering an electric cow prod - probably wouldn't work with the 3110 though ;o)

Re: Ricoh will not start :(
Nik,
You've probably tried this already, but sometimes our Ricoh seems to get stuck in sleep mode and the Mac won't wake it up when I queue a print job, and I've found that often just unplugging the USB cable and reconnecting it, is enough to get it going again.

Re: Ricoh will not start :(
My PC does not recognise the printer when it is left on for some time and not used also none of the buttons respond I cant use the printer at all no menus, nada, nill, ziltch. I cant even turn it off unless I unplug it. I have tried everything, but in the end I have to resort to pulling the plug from the machine, the blue light stays on for about 5 secs after the power has been disconnected, and then plugging back in. I then press the on/off switch the printer starts up and if i have a job waiting it starts printing straight away no cleaning or priming routine.
Many thanks

Yes I mean remove power from the printer. I turned the plug off and switched back on after the blue light had extinguished (takes about 12-15 seconds).NikGrey;90374 wrote:I realise leaving that cover open would cause it to have a fit, or at least the Red light comes on (Just tried it with my remaining Ricoh). I believe you are also in contact with Scott in the office on this, but my advice last night was a potential solution and would be my first recommended step.
Re: Ricoh will not start :(
I turned my computer off once, but didn't turn the printer off (normally both are left on). When I turned the computer back on I had exactly the same as you mention. Turned the printer off, turned it back on (no purging) and all was fine.

Re: Ricoh will not start :(
Morning All,
I tried removing the power yesterday - first time for 30 secs.. no change - then I tried with a bigger gap with no power.. No change again. Then a few hours - No change (Was really getting worried at that point).
So left it off again, well - actually for more than 12 hours and this morning I try again and guess what ?
IT'S ALIVE !!!!!!!
If it makes any difference my printers are connected to a mac - everything is on a network though (not usb) but I really don't think that has any baring on the situation.
I think, well - the only explanation I can come up with is that these (like many other things) have a memory which is backed up with a small battery, maybe that just needed to discharge and reset !
Thanks for all of the replies, that alone shows I was not alone which was a comfort in those dark days.
