Re: Halogen oven temperature accuracy

Just fired up my "Bella Casa" halogen oven (looks like most others on the market). Set to 200c and popped in an old meat thermometer. Temp goes well of scale which stops at 190c so the dial may be inaccurate. Have ordered another thermometer. Can anyone comment on the accuracy of these ovens ?.

So assuming I can "calibrate" the oven using a decent thermometer will the temperatures be repeatable ?. How much leeway is there when using a mug wrap ?

I use a convection oven and find that its best to leave the thermometer in there whilst the mugs are sublimating. The dials are not accurate but I find that once I have set the temp and leave it for a while (about 15-20minutes) then it seems to keep consistant. On my oven I have to set it to 250c to get it to top out at 200 on the thermometer. They would be way undercooked if I went by the dials.

Thanks, I may invest in an infra red device which should be accurate on the outside of the metal extender ring. However I don't see too many people complaining about these cheap ovens so I may be overthinking this !.

I have never had a problem with the dial settings. Mine is set at 200 I cook for between 17-20 mins depending on the colours I am printing. I have the odd browning of the black but that is normally due to me being out of the room, thinking I have more time to make a cuppa, when the timer goes off and they cook for a bit longer.
Many thanks
Iain

Equipment used A4 Ricoh printer, HP3085 Heat Press Graphtec cutter, Jarin mug press, CJV 30-60 solvent printer and lots of help from DSF.

I bought one of those infra red guns off amazon for £10 and got it next day with Amazon prime. I'm trying to test the temp of my heat platen and it's like 20 to 25 degrees under what it should be. I don't really get the whole spot distance thing, the closer I hold it to the platen the hotter it reads. Anyone get an accurate reading with the infra red guns?

also what halogen ovens do you recommend for sublimation, links welcome :0) anyone use the mini convection ovens?
