Hi guys ,

Mugs for sale at £4.99 including postage how is this possible?
i work out :
Mug blank in bulk :.81pence
ink : 30 pence
paper :8 pence (2 designs on page)
postage 2nd class oba : 2.50
polystyrene packaging : 30 pence
thats £3.99 before and selling fees usually around 15% for ebay (including paypal )
so say 75 pence for selling fees / paypal that leaves 25 pence profit? people are doing them cheaper than 4.99 to
anyone help me get my head around this? lol

large format bulk ink is about a 1/10th of the price of Sawgrass, bulk rolls of paper also slash the costs considerably compared to sheets (don't have my spreadsheet of costings on this machine to say how much we pay per mug print) and then bulk mugs should be around 50-60p

For large production, don't think of it in terms of profit per unit, think of it in terms of profit per hour... how may mugs can you make at once, how many can you make an hour, per day etc
If you can print 4 mugs in 5 minutes, then you can make nearly 50 an hour, and if you're working to approx £1 profit per mug, then you're making £50 an hour, say you then do an 8 hour day, then you've made £400
Now, say you take on an employee on min wage, and you set him away on his own workbench with another 4 presses, and he gets upto speed, and then you've got £800 a day coming in (minus his wage of £50 per day)

This ^^

Too many people think of saleable items in terms of individual profit margin rather than overall revenue streams. I make damn all profit on everything that I sell compared to others (I use more expensive stock than most) but once you add all those smaller profits together you get a real figure - the bottom line. It's the only one that matters.

Buy a pallet of mugs and try it out for a month. Count the sales and do your sums to see if that business model works. Not for me though, I'd rather work for a higher profit and do less work.

My line of thinking.

Hi, I am fairly new to this mug printing business and after a few months “cracked” the printing and have produced a few good quality printed mugs. So next step to try and sell something. So, I have been studying eBay searching for “mugs” and “personalised mugs” and filtering show only > sold listings and > new. Reading a tip somewhere I understand its better to include P&P and mugs were selling between £4 to £12+++ including P&P. I decided on selling my pre-printed mugs for £8.95 and personalised £6.95 and have been adverting of about 4 weeks now with between 4 and 53 views, depending on the mug, the higher viewers helped by a little social media marketing a couple of people watching but I suspect this is other people selling mugs but not one sale :-( Here’s my see other items link, please ignore the furniture also for sale;

I spent a long time studying the keywords on the sold mugs for the title and main description and tried to get across a quality product with a guarantee.

Any suggestions?

Regards,

Keith,
firstly be careful selling products with designs on them that are not your own - this will get you in some hot water, especially for something so recognisable as the Mr Men! (maybe some of your watchers are watching you for reasons other than they want to buy from you!)
I would never buy a printed product with a set design where the product shot is just a mockup - I want to see the actual product I am buying - showing a bad mockup doesn't build trust with your potential customers.

Your classification of the mugs production/origin is confusing...

PRODUCED IN THE UK - NOT MADE IN CHINA
High quality ceramic European Mug
The basic mugs are imported from the US

Are the mugs made in the UK, Europe, or the US?
(I'd be surprised if the ceramic was made in any of these places, and not in China, Thailand, India...)

Edit to add - this is an offical Mr Greedy mug http://www.tesco.com/direct/mr-greedy-mug/367-7239.prd
I very much doubt you have a license agreement to print/sell that design or any of the others you have listed
