Do you ever have the a day, no matter what you do or customer you see or speak to ( no matter how long you explain why it won't work,) or why 72 mugs can't be done in half hour, or that embroidery or engraving can't be done because it needs to digitized or you need time to do a line drawing. its been that like that for me to day all talking, little money in the till, working but not getting anywhere and to top it off England Lost. I have worked my socks of today, and got no where, very frustrating, sometimes I wonder why I'm self employed. Rant over

You do it because it still gives you that buzz when you get a sale!

And occasionally I pop in which makes you realize those other days weren't so bad after all. What could be worse than an early morning visit by Janners!

I don't mind talking and not taking money as it might lead to orders later on. but when I'm trying to fair, and explain why it can't be done and they get the hump because the don't understand why and mutter I'll take my money else where, and there is a couple of fly by nights near me that take their money because they don't care and only want the money, we all lose out in my area as we are tared with the same brush.

This is the sad situation we are now in because everyone wants stuff cheap!

It's things like this that have seen loads of household names go to never return along with our high streets shops which are also going.

At which point will people learn you can't have your cake & eat it? they needed us but once were gone and the cheap fly by night have gone where will they go?

This also applies to our suppilers because if they keep their prices high than we won't be able to buy from them because no one is buying from us!

Last person to leave please turn the lights of if you can still afford the electric?

I love those people.. the why does it take so long to do that me a huge batch of mugs and why can't you do them for £1 a mug like others do.

If I had a shop.. I think I would offer for them to spend the day with me.. and show them exactly why !!

when i get people looking for mugs at a couple of quid each just like they can buy on line I just offer them the following advice - if they only want to spend a couple of quid then go ahead and buy online, but suggest they might want to ask a few questions of the vendor before they part with their money, such as

is it dishwasher safe?
how many dishwasher cycles has the coating been tested to?
is vendor using a premium quality mug blank?
will the vendor tweak images to make them fit the mug?
will the vendor tweak the colour/contrast?
will the vendor just print the file sent even if it is obviously not suitable for any reason?
how much will the vendor charge them to post the finished mug?
does the cost of the postage bring the price of the cheap mug close to my standard charge?

the list goes on but I don't usually get any further before they place the order. I also find the best selling aid is to show the punter a few of my finished mugs - one with a photo on, an engraving with fine detail, an illustration from a medieval manuscript, a bold logo, whatever happens to be going through at the time.
