HELP.. Having Problems Creating Design :(

Hi All,

I have an opportunity to obtain a nice contract but am having problems creating the design which is compatible with my cutting software (FlexiStarter 10).

I have created the design in Inkscape and am happy with it but when I export it using THESE guidelines only part of the overall design is being displayed in Flexi (I had this problem in the past but cannot remember how I got around it).

Here is the .eps version of what I am trying to cut: HERE

I need a white elipse, (with the crown in the middle Which is Red) - and the writing above and below is also red - simple.

I have also tried Illustrator but CANNOT get the text to wrap around the Ellipse.. if I had hair it would be gone by now so I am here asking for help..... arghhhhhhh.

Heres an image - Top is Inkscape and bottom is where I am in Illustrator (cant get text to wrap around the ellipse):




If all else fails I will turn to Silhouette Designer and make these One by one with that but I wanted to use my big cutter to make sheets of what I need - so, after making the final design just cut out the amount of white ellipses I need, then with the red just cut out a sheet of the required text.. press the red text, then add the white ellipse and then the red crown ontop of the ellipse.



So, I have:

Photoshop.
Illustrator.
Silhouette Designer.
FlexiStarter 10
Inkscape (which I was led to believe was correct for the job)

Questions are:

1, How can I successfully create the design in Inkscape -Export it, and then import it into Flexi ?
(difficult to get a screenshot of the flexi import as thats on a pc and I can hardly see now as been at this for hours)

2, How can I get text to stick to a path in illustrator.


I'm going mad here but I know you lot will be able to help..


Just a thought, has anyone tried 'iDraw' for Mac ? I see it's well priced..

can you upload the file that you said only display in part in flexi? i will check in my one.

ps. to put text on ellipse in illustrator you need to change text tool to "text on path"
you will be able to write on the path.

Ah 'Text on Path'.. will try that first thing, a bit concerned why my exports from Inkscape only partially appear in Flexi though

Will try tomorrow for you. But you can try youself... If only half is showing then it means other half is hidden ()
click right mouse button on this design in flexi and pick "unmask"
mask should appear. Probably in black color. Remove it. Full design should appear. Hope it will work.

These should do it. Ended up just redrawing it for you rather than messing with the eps you'd uploaded.

Zip file contains an .ai, .pdf, .dwg, .dxf, .eps, and .svg and I'm sure pretty much all of these will work in FlexiStarter 10.

EDIT: Why do you do the red text first, then the white elipse, then the red crown on top of the white elipse? Why not just do the white elipse first, then all the red on top of that so you're only looking at two passes in total.

Many Thanks Artie, the first AI file works in Flexi so now I need to work out how to get what I need done - done in Illi..

I hadnt had a serious stab at this file - was just throwing together a sample to see if it worked, which it didnt

It would have been Two passes in any case as Flexi cuts by colour but the final file would have been made in the way you suggest.

No worries; I have a lot of software that I use on a daily basis so I'm always here to help if need be. Because I use Xara for my designs (have done since Corel Xara v1.1 and can't stop using it), I have to export to PDF, import to Illustrator, then export to SVG so I'm used to going around the houses to get what I need.

Did you get a chance to try that .eps file I created with Inkscape in your Flexi ?

I am getting the ellipse with the crown in and only the last Two letters from the bottom text.

I'm going to use the file Arty made for this job as I havent been able to get my letters to line up as well as I had wanted (the E on the end of June is slightly pissed - ok and I can isolate that and tweak it but I want a more accurate solution) - I really need to work out whats going wrong with my inkscape file at the moment as I was able to learn how to use that program quite quickly (Illustrator is a bit more frustrating and will take more time).

yep. i had a go and like you said. after unmasking it. crown is showing in ellipse but only two last letters there. so something to do with inkscape i think.
