A couple of interesting items...

I recently picked up a couple of items that may be of interest to some and thought I would share.

The first is a wooden postcard that I got from a vintage railway line. Purchased because I thought it was an interesting piece of merchandise. The colours are quite shocking when you look closely but I doubt if a "standard" buyer would worry about that. They claim that the postcard is a standard first class post in terms of cost and it has definitely been dye subbed on the picture side and burnt on the other. If you hit the holiday market then it might be worth investigating. I am told it is balsa wood.

Next is a mug that is sold in my local town. I have borrowed this to show you as it is printed ALL the way round including under the handle. They have been printed in Norwich which is all I know, if this is you I congratulate you on a superbly printed product and also would love you to share where you got your jigs from

And last up is my new 20 week old dog de bordeaux puppy. Eats, farts and sleeps so just like his owner really....

We have mugs similar to this in our tourist centre here, not as neat around the handles though. I'm wondering if that was done before the handle was attached? But then surely you'd have 100% coverage? Could be an interesting jig indeed. The 3d machines look like they could probably print around the handle but at the moment it's a bit hit and miss.

They are definitely post production and are done in a standard oven (a 3D machine does not necessarily provide vacum for mugs as the vacuum part on some machines is taken out before printing mugs).

Would love to know where they get the jigs from though.

Can you ask the seller? I sure someone such as yourself with a golden tongue would have no problem getting them to slip that one out

Whereabouts is the join from the paper Simon? is it under the handle?

Tried that, the bloke who is selling the mugs to the shop that I know is a funny bugger and will not say anything. Personally I do not understand why as its no loss to him but I suppose he is normal for Norfolk

The join is as you can see in the photo. You can see at the top of the mug where the image is light/dark with a definitive line. This goes all the way down the mug. There is no visible white line/join at all, it is really impressive as a dye sub mug.

Any chance of a pic handle towards the camera Simon? Be good to get a clear view of that join.

This should give you a good idea. Just so you can get a perspective, the misalignment as shown under the top part of the handle is about 2mm max.

I think alot of people would want to know how they pulled that off, I wonder why the space left blank for the handle isn't symmetrical.

I suspect that would be almost impossible.

I know how this is done as there really is only one way, that is using a mug wrap and an oven. However I have no idea where they got the mug wraps from.
