I work at an outdoor centre and part of what I do is looking after and repairing equipment. I've got a small (evenings/weekends) business of my own doing sewing repairs to gear. I have started looking at hot seam repairs. Really just technical versions of wonder web that you can use to iron up a hem on a pair of trousers for example. I then started looking at more accurate heat sources than an iron. I don't want to burn a tent by mistake by having it run to hot. That got me looking at cap presses as a more accurate and manageable tool. I was going to get a cheap one. Then you read about temperature fluctuations and uneven heating and I would rather get something as reliable as I can afford. Then I came to this forum and started reading around the whole subject and without meaning to came to be interested in the whole process of sublimation. It's quite remarkable that for a relatively small investment you can get access to this gear which produces such high quality results. So where I am at the minute is thinking of buying a press which can do a number of things. I would like to try making some signs for work. So I am wondering whether an adkins studio press would tick the boxes... I'll stop here though. I know this is just for introductions. So hello, I've already learnt a lot from the forum and look forward to learning more.
Greetings from Cumbria

Hello all, my name is Kevin and I live and work near Penrith in Cumbria. I never intended to get into sublimation but I have found myself drawn in

Welcome Kevin, I used to live in Barrow-in-Furness quite a while ago now, then moved to Millom. Work brought me down here to London!

Hi Cumbriakein. Welcome aboard. Interesting sideline you got there... a nice little twist on one of many uses of a heat press!
To view links or images in signatures your Beer count must be 10 pints or greater. You have currently drunk 15 pints!.

Re: Greetings from Cumbria
Thanks for the welcomes. James, the west coast of Cumbria is beautiful. Outside the nuclear industry though work is not easy to find there. Arko, yes, it is just another twist. Hopefully it may be of use to someone else too. I'm still looking around at what to invest in. I have in mind: a printer, a press that allows a cap press and a plate to be used. Plus the peripherals, paper heat tape ink etc. I'm looking at second hand stuff and also at what folks on here are selling/supplying. No rush though. There is a lot to digest. Particularly with heat presses. It's an interesting journey though

Hi Kevin
Welcome to the forum, I wish you all the best with this new business venture and we at Xpres can offer a vast range of sublimation equipment set-ups and the on-going consumables as well as support to help you develop this area.
Of course, if there is anything I can do to help just let me know via email or telephone
Looking at heat presses we have a wide variety of high quality presses where you will see minimal temperature fluctuation, we advise quality as the presses last longer, do the job better and hold their value better in the long run. Adkins studio presses are a great choice offering versatility and quality in one low cost package.
All the best Kevin and have a great day
