Hi all
while doing many searches and on the understanding that sublimation only works on items with a polymer coating? I wondered if there was a substance out there that I could coat on to items that didn't have the polymer coating? I see items sold that's been made sublimation friendly but I know that some of the hard surface items I want to sublimate won't have. Mainly thinking sheet metal say brass or steel and ceramic glazed tiles.
thanks in advance.

Re: Sublimation coatings?
Yes there are coatings available. We've had threads discussing before and many folk have found it difficult if not impossible to get a good even coating onto there blanks. If you're looking for tiles and metals, all of these can already be sourced with coated, unless you're looking for specific sizes/shapes not available maybe?

when I first set off on the road of discovery with sublimation I hadn't realised that hard surfaced items needed the polymer surface. I'm thinking forward really and there's something I wanted to try and sublimating on to brass sheets of odd shapes not readily available. These brass or even steel sheets will have a painted surface but not polymer coated.
wonder if you can tell me the substance? I've seen something on ebay-

wondered if there's anything in the uk? Would like to see any threads on the subject.

Re: Sublimation coatings?
Take a look here as an example.....
http://www.megauk.com/sublimation/subli ... atings.php
I've personally never used this stuff but I'm told it's very difficult to get an even coating in a dust free environment. May well be worth a punt though
Not particularly cheap.
Companies like Subli Metals are sometimes able to offer custom cut shapes if you're ordering in good numbers.

Re: Sublimation coatings?
it aint easy and not for the faint hearted getting the coating applied evenly and without marks /brushstroke is bloody difficult and should be done in an extremely well ventelated room its really somthing that needs spraying on using dedicated sprayers and a spray shop etc etc many on the forum have asked similar questions and to be honest i dont think ive seen a reply yet which says " ive done it and it worked great" good luck but i dont hold out much hope for you .Markie;87558 wrote:Hi Justin
