bad colour reproduction

I'm not getting any out of gamut warnings anywhere

Is soft proof mode the screen that displays when you hit print? because when that screen appears with the preview it matches the original until I hit 'match print colors' then it completely changes colour almost like it fades out a little.

No, you can do soft proofing mode in real-time as you edit, which has the same effect as the match print colours in the print screen, but as you are still editting you can twaek the colours to where you need them to be.
For this to work though, you'll need a calibrated monitor, otherwise you can't trust what you are looking at.

Ah I get you thats done under 'view- proof setup- custom' I believe?

I'm just using a samsung 32" lcd it hasn't been specifically calibrated as never needed to and I'm slightly colour blind so its probably not wise to play with the settings lol

ok. as i can see in first post colours are pretty good just to juicy/warm is that correct? if so i can correct that for you.

It may be a little too juicy

The roses that are fuschia pink (sp) are coming out with a touch more red but the background of the image is coming out with a touch more green than they should, the picture of santa pod the colour shades are just slightly off, but not by much.

For calibrating your monitor it's not about playing with settings, but using a special piece of equipment and software to do the job.
You'd ideally want an IPS based monitor rather than a TN though, which are a little more expensive.

Yes, that's where Soft Proofing is - once in custom, and canset it up for the ICC profile Paul made, and then save that as a preset.

I didn't mean playing with settings to calibrate I did just mean selecting the new icc profiloe so displayed on screen and playing with settings, I realise there is more to actually calibrating monitor.

If I load the profile in soft proofing doing colour match it by eye may not be 100% that a fully calibrated setup would do but may be able to get a slightly better match than what it is now, can always revert back so may be worth a go.
