Re: dishwasher proof stickers for base of mug

Post by mfacer »

Hi - I am SURE I've discussed this on here before but cannot find my post!

I am unable to print to the bottom of our mugs, but I would like to put a sticker with the logo and "dishwasher safe" on the bottom of each one.

Can any one please recommend a supplier or the type of sticker I should be looking for? I have no idea at the moment!!

Thank you

I doubt you'll find any decals that will remain 'readable' or even stay on in a dishwasher if that is your intention. If you just want to inform your customers that your mugs are dishwasher safe why not just put a note in the packaging with the mug?

If you still need decals I can print them for you on 7 yr vinyl with eco solvent inks. Drop me a pm if interested.

Contact member Chongsta (Dave Crocker) on here, he does them for us, and a few other members. They stay stuck on the base of the mug through a dishwasher no problem, the ink does wash off eventually, but they stay stuck on.
If end customer prefers, they can easily peel off leaving no mark, just using a finger nail.
We just had our last batch of these delivered end of last week, so he's definitely still doing them.

I don't use them anymore but I found some great ones that go through the laser printer. Here they are

Otherwise get a rubber stamp made and use permanent ink - looks a bit rough but I use it cos I want an underground look.

Hi, we can offer the additional service of pad printing the bases of our blank sublimation mugs in 1 colour with a design of our customer’s choice (normally their logo or this could be "dishwasher safe". The cost of this is the usual cost of the mug, plus 10p and a setup charge of £24 (this is reduced to £20 if you place a repeat order with no changes to the artwork). The pad print is 100% dishwasher safe. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like further information on this. Best regards, Kris

I wonder if the base of the mug is coated? And whether you could use a cap press and sublimate a label. Something I've often considered, but I don;t have a cap press.

you could sublimate the base of the mug if it was coated, but would the increased time for producing the mug be worth it?

Say you make a mug in 5 minutes. You can therefore make 12 mugs in an hour. If you charge £10 per mug, you are on a rate of £120 per hour.

Now if you also want to print the base of the mug, then you will take 10 minutes to make a mug, so you can only do 6 in an hour, so are only paying yourself £60 per hour.

You have just halved your wages effectively.

Can you charge extra because the base of the mug is printed? Does it add value to the product in the eyes of the customer? I would say not. So, the only advantage to having the base printed is the hope that you may get more repeat business, but how much repeat business would you need from this new business model to break even with the money you made per hour without printing the bases?

If you can get someone who can do print/cut vinyls, then they can run you off a few sheets of labels, and they will take seconds to apply to your mugs, having minimal increased production time.

NB: I have purposefully simplified the numbers in terms of time and money, and ignored material and running costs in the 'profit' to keep the post clearer.

Our mugs have printed vinyl labels on the bases, and the outlets we supply them to (boutiques, art gallery shops, museum gift shops across the UK) are happy with this solution. None have mentioned they're be happier if they were printed.

I had Roger (above) make me some decals for the mug bases, my Test mug decal is still as good as new. For the price I dont think you can beat that.

I have a post somewhere about my own trials, things went well until I got a batch of mugs which previously had a coated base but no longer ! So had to find another way.

i must say I love the Listawood offer, if I ever get to place a large order I will certainly consider that.

Both Roger's and Listwood's sound ok. Listawwood's would add about 60p to the price of each mug. Soundsl like Roger could run off a heap of them in a batch. Both great solutions for someone printing hundreds of mugs.
